thanks quoia I had a go and now when I try to add the printer it says error windows can't open the printer add on error 0x000006be0

How is the printer "connected" to the laptop?
Physically direct via a USB cable or networked somehow?
And can you remember when you first had this issue with the printer, was it after any Win 7 update, new program install, system crash or other such "out of the ordinary" event ?
