I read all the available John Grisham titles some years ago and enjoyed them but became bored with the genre.
I moved onto history gradually and read a wide variety of them these days, particularly anything good I can get on British Military or Modern Irish History.
Just finished reading Pearse Lawlor's "The Outrages" and moved onto "The Burnings 1920" by the same author. Have "The British Cavalry", "The Trials and Triumphs of Les Dawson" and "Task Force Black" (all historical) in my "bought" pile at the moment as reserves.
Can thoroughly recommend The Outrages to anyone who is interested in that period in Irish and Northern Irish history. Very enlightening - too enlightening to elaborate on here.0 -
Weird! I just read Sycamore Row and just finished the Fall of the Giants trilogy. Enjoyed both in different ways. I also have just been through a phase of a lot of other Ken Follett.
Looks like we can find some common ground0 -
Funny you should mention Giants. I watched "The Selfish Giant" on TV last night and found it to be an excellent film.
From IMDb:
A contemporary fable about two scrappy 13-year-old working-class friends in the UK who seek fortune by getting involved with a local scrap dealer and criminal, leading to tragic consequences.
Director: Clio Barnard
Writers: Clio Barnard, Oscar Wilde (inspired by 'The Selfish Giant')
Stars: Conner Chapman, Shaun Thomas, Sean Gilder0 -

Some reads to consider:
Rubbernecker by Belinda Bauer - this is excellent, and told from the point of view of someone with autism
Personal by Lee Child - the new Jack Reacher book, which is a good page turner
Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith - good whodunnit set in Soviet Russia
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks - interesting take of lots of short stories when the inevitable zombie apocalypse arrives. Better and much different than the movie.
I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes - great thriller
Other books I have enjoyed:
Captain Corellis Mandolin
The Time Traveller wife
Life of Pi
Gone Girl
Before I got to sleep
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
The Kite Runner0
