Land Registry? Complicated or what!

I am sure not long ago I read that to change a name on the title deeds of my property, (no mortgage) all I had to do was send the original marriage certificate showing the new name. I looked on the Land Registry site and it looks like a nightmare!! I haven't a CLUE what they are referring to, surely it can't all of a sudden become to complicated? Maybe I was looking at the wrong section?
Would appreciate any help from someone that has done this recently.

I haven't done this, but the information on their website seems perfectly straightforward - You fill in and send to them form AP1 (with "change of name" specified in panel 4) or just write a covering letter, and include your marriage certificate.0

Seems simple.. Until you read form AP1.. It's an absolute joke and almost impossible for the average person to interpret. The form is a generic one for making a charge to the register and a lot of the question are irrelevant. I would say email them and ask them to call you to talk you through it. Dot call them as it's a premium rate number and my wife was on the phone about 15 minutes. Good luck with it!
I complained about the form to the land registry and their response was that 1 generic change of register form was best to suit the majority of customers!0 -

Yes I have, and am none the wiser. My question really is WHY do they make a simple change so darned complicated!
Why not:
For change of name, please send original marriage certificate, name etc. and a covering letter, or is that too simple? When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0 -

Gatita – sorry if our form and guidance don’t fit the bill for you’re here but as NidO posted there are two ways in which you can amend the register with your new name
1 Complete the Form AP1 with the application as “Change of Name” and send in with your marriage certificate. Or
2. Send the marriage certificate along with a covering letter requesting that we change the name.
There is no fee for this application and we will return the original marriage certificate.
As you already appreciate the Form AP1 is a generic one and in cases where the application is fairly straightforward a number of the panels need not be completed. For example panels 8 to 14 don’t apply in this example.
As far as our customer support phone number 0844 892 1111 is concerned this is not a premium rate number but some phone companies may charge a higher rate. That revenue is not passed on to us. We also provide a 0300 006 0411 number which may be cheaper for some callers from a landline“Official Company Representative
