I mean, what were they thinking???43580

I was thinking of joining OVO, but today did some calculations, using the same figures which showed them favourably, a few weeks back. I was surprised to see that they now compare with the big companies and are more expensive than some of them.
However, some companies include incentives (eg for paperless billing) in the rates quoted, while others add them as a bonus, but I'm very unsure of the case with OVO as they say my gas consumption is high (it's average) and quote me a massive £15000+ per annum. I am not mistakenly putting figures in wrong boxes or quoting annual figures, monthly, and OVO is the only site which gives a quotation wildly different from my calculations.
The unprofessional language used on the site is rather off-putting, too. eg' What do you want ?'
6.1. With all of our Payment Methods, you’ll receive a total discount of £30.00 per year per fuel if you agree to manage your account online. The total of £30.00 per year per fuel gets added to your account on a daily basis, as £0.0822 per day.
7.2 The OVO Interest Reward is currently calculated as 3% per year and is awarded for each date you are in credit, using the amount of any credit that will be left in your account after you’ve paid your bill.
Paper bills attract a £20 pa extra cost.
If price is your sole criterion, then that are slightly cheaper providers. However, if you want online monthly billing then Ovo cannot be bettered.
Finally, under OFGEM rules, all energy companies have to produce Tariff Comparison Rates (TCR) which is a simple way of comparing Ovo's tariff with A N Other without worrying about discounts etc. It is a bit like APR for borrowing money.
What projected annual figures have you given Ovo for gas and electricity consumption? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Standing charges multiplied by the number of days in the year .
Tariff
gas my past years usage multiplied by the Kwh price .
elec as above .
Total and take off any added discount gives the figures you require PA .0 -
The figure which caused the problem was 13830 for gas. It was /still is flagged with a statement that as it was over 73200 the cost will be high
I have checked my entries and they are in the correct place ie 'kwh' and 'yearly'.0 -
I will avoid this company like the plague :
First of all the telephone greeting sounds as though it is being read by a school girl, so not very encouraging.
Then after a long wait, I explained the problem to a lady, who found that my post code (of 42 years standing) is not accepted by the system.
She asked for my annual amount paid, but I said I had the kwh figures to hand and would like a quotation based on those, as I'd used them with other sites.
After saying she preferred payment values, she agreed to quote for me and asked for my figures. immediately she said my gas figure was huge and asked if I was a business. I explained that I had used the same figures on other websites and had , with the exception of British Gas, quotations within £50 of eachother and that my figure was only very slightly above the average used by sites where actual figures can't be given (for a 3 bed semi with 2 occupants).
She still insisted that it was high (It had to be because the system said so !) and quoted over £300 per month, for the gas. I said that this did not agree with any other quotes and she said that this was correct and asked what I wanted her to do.
Give me a correct quotation?
At this point I gave up and put the phone down.0 -
Judging by the unprofessional website, Hazzanet's example of a communication and today's phone call, I wouldn't be surprised to find that the company is being run by a school , as a business studies experience. :rotfl:0

I will defend Ovo up to a point. They have grown from 150K customers to over 400K in 12 months and they have had to take on a lot of additional staff. That said, that is not an excuse for poor service. It is not run by a school, it is a start up company set up a few years ago.
I have just checked Ovo's website and they do allow you to get a quote using Kwhs. I don't like all the modern speak either but then I am in my 60s!!
Ovo needs to know how it is performing. Personally, I would now send an e-mail entitled COMPLAINT in bold capitals to hello@ovoenergy.com, copied to stephen.fitzpatrick@ovoenergy.com ( the MD of OVO whose business e-mail address is freely available on the web) explaining the problem. You will get a pretty quick response.

As above love Ovo .0
