Think I've been scammed....

I've just bought a Canon 5D Mark iii on eBay. : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151440764293?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

But I was a bit concerned after google imaging the images I came up with this: http://www.gumtree.com/p/digital-cameras/canon-5d-mark-iii-body-used-but-in-excellent-condition-/1081239724

It's the same set of pictures. :( What would you do? Yes I know I've been stupid.

  • Is it not just that the seller couldn't find a buyer on Gumtree so put it on Ebay instead?

Not sure if I have missed something.

I really hope so :) I hope I'm just worrying over nothing. It's just £800 is a lot of money to lose to a scam.

4 sold from an account with no history of selling, way too cheap and stupid terms in the auction- Yep, scam....
Ebay location is Derbyshire, Gumtree location is Cambridge, again makes my scan radar twitch.

Start a PayPal dispute ASAP I think, someone else will be able to give you the exact option, but IIRC there's an option for scam auction.

According to the eBay listing you provided, he had (and has sold) 4 of them, perhaps he stole the photos off Gumtree.

Hopefully, you will be protected through PayPal if it is a scam.

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

I'm not sure many buyers would risk £800 to someone who has not sold before. Have you paid?

  • I'm I correct in thinking you paid half the price of a used on from someone called Russian whos probably only bought penny items to get some feedback?

I can see John Lewis honouring their warranty should you even get it. If it does turn up its either fake, damaged or stolen.

Am I right in thinking that these cameras are usually around the £2000 mark when new?

I do wonder if this is a poor attempt at a scam where the seller doesn't realise that their funds will be held for 21 days?

OP ask for tracking , due to the postage glitch I can't see what postage method they state, but ask for tracking anyway. Then as soon as the delivery time has passed slam in an INR claim, and don't accept any parcels once that INR is open.

between £1799 and £2500. Yes I know I was stupid. I suppose you kind of take a chance. I've opened a dispute with paypal and given them the link so we'll see what happens. I mean, I'll get my money back won't I? That's what this whole money back guarantee isn't it?
