Pegs, saucepans, wooden spoons and leave him play. I do think that sometimes we get into the habit of thinking that our children should be amused by us every second of the day - leaving no time for their own imagination play.

Wellies and waterproofs and going for a walk to splash in puddles?
    Thanks for the tip.
I donned some rainwear and wellington boots and went for a walk. It was quite muddy but still enjoyable.

Ohhhhhhh...amusing a two-year old for hours on end is exhausting!

I discovered that mine would love to spend half an hour ripping up my newspaper. Cardboard boxes are a good one, when you've got the car back, collect some large ones from a supermarket and keep them flat until Junior needs a new plaything. Then a bit of sellotape and voila!...a new play den.

If you don't like the mess that comes with crafting stuff, buy a couple of big plastic tablecloths to put the stuff on, and just sweep all of the mess up in that. You can then throw the whole lot away at the end of playtime (usually about 5 minutes after you've got all of the stuff out!)

Good luck with the playgroups! :)

I've just checked this out and it's bloomin awesome :D That's exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for, apart from the 'window paint' it's pretty minimal mess and may entertain him for longer than 20 seconds :rotfl:

I have learned today that indoor play time seems sooooo much longer than outdoor play time. For some reason he goes through something different every half a minute playing inside but will happily dig a hole in the garden for 2 hours without stopping!

Today we have....watched 15 minutes of ice age, chalked over my walls, play doughed my cream carpet, built and then destroyed many items of Lego City (his obsession) and none of which looks how it began as only daddy can put it back together properly, built a train track (took 25 mins to make a good track, he played with it for 2 minutes), did 6 puzzles, played (use the term loosely) ker-plunk, filled my downstairs toilet floor with water as he was trying to get his surfing Lego man to actually surf....and much other pointless crap :D

Sorry, this seems to have turned into a diary of how boring my life has become!!!
  • You could always make use of the 'being stranded indoors' to potty-train him (if he isn't already)!!:rotfl:

That would've been ideal but he's totally trained during the day :D shame I can't say the same about night time but that will come in time I'm sure!

We baked a lemon drizzle cake today, I spent 20 minutes fishing egg shell out of the mixture tho. The weather was better so he spent most of the day riding his bike in the garden, happy days :)

If you are feeling virtuous, pick the episodes in the basis of the activities you can do afterwards.

If you're human, just enjoy the pleasure of time spent on the sofa with your toddler.
