Tomatoes "On The Vine"

Seems like a cynical marketing ploy by the supermarkets to have mug punters pay to throw away leaves and stalks that should have been disposed of by the grower

You don't have to buy them if you don't want to - no-one forces you. Just buy them loose if you prefer!
Frankly if people are too stupid to tell the difference and pay extra then they deserve to pay for it!0 -
Tomatoes on the vine are so much tastier than 'ordinary' tomatoes. They're worth the extra, the others are tasteless by comparison. They also look much nicer.0

Not being born yesterday I don't buy them. However a local Tesco's seems to be dropping loose toms in favour of those with leaves & stalks attached.0 -

Don't take offence but I see you moving into the "mug punter" category. It's the variety and how long the grower soaks picked fruits in water that affects the flavour. As to them looking nicer in the veg drawer of your fridge.............0 -

Why on earth would they taste better just because they still have stalks? I agree they look more jamie oliver, but once they are in the fridge does it really make any differance?0

Tomatoes on the vine don't usually all ripen at the same time, but these in the supermarkets are all red. Makes you wonder what the put on them to make it happen.0

I was completely sceptical when my mum started buying them inaddition to the loose tomatoes but I have to admit I can tell the difference between the two, the one from on the vine does taste better (they're not even the same colour as the loose ones). They do taste more like my nan's home grown ones whereas the loose ones don't even taste of anything really. I can't see how just being on the vine makes a difference but maybe they reserve the better tomatoes for that packaging or another way to think of it, the more mass produced tasteless tomatoes they only use for the loose."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
