sort codes?

Is the sort code for a bank the same all over the country?

I want to pay someone through my online banking who is with Abbey National. I do not know their sort code and they are not contactable for a while. If the sort code is the same for everyone who banks with them can someone please let me know it. Thanks

I have never seen one of their current accounts that does not have the sort code 09-01-26, but that does not mean they dont have. They have a different one for savings accounts I beleive, where you need a sort-code, account number, and roll/reference number. James

Some banks will have one for each branch such as LTSB.

In addition former Lloyds Bank branch sort codes begin with '30' & former TSB branch sort codes begin with '07'.

You are right about the Lloyd's ones but I dont think you are about the TSB one's they began 77 for branches in England and Wales, and 87 for branches in Scotland.

The sort code identifies either the branch or the department the account is held at.

OK,thanks for that. I am a LTSB customer ( Formerly Lloyds '30') & I was trying to remember the TSB sort code from about 7 years ago.

Sorry, I was not being critical. I am on the other end, I am an ex-TSB customer, both south and north of the border. Cheers. James
