Rofl .That is the way to go.:T :T My friend and colleague once commented on how a psycho pupil was "really good for her."I popped in to her room one day and found him sitting at her desk, feet up on it, playing on the pc, eating a bag of crisps and a large baguette, and swigging a can of coke. The rest of the class were meanwhile hard at work, probably feeling just a tad miffed at this.TillyTrippit wrote: »:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Evening All,
To all those teachers and fabulous TAs out there - how good was that lie in this morning!!!
I read this thread with utter fascination - you bought books on how to teach? I must have been born cynical and recognised I'd never read 'em even way back then.:o
Like many of you I have spent 21 years of my life wondering how to keep the students (our boss has delusions of grandeur) challenged, engaged and performing at a far higher level than could be expected (spot the school that is expecting 'those who must not be named', and whose boss is on the verge of the compulsory breakdown and taking us all with him).
Anyway, I have spent far too long looking for and designing worksheets, attending working parties, study groups, leading inset, begging for an interactive board (bl**dy thing just keeps dying on me every time someone is in to observe). I've contributed to huge numbers of courses and websites, been asked to contribute to teaching publications, ITT courses - and so the very long list goes on.

Last year I discovered the secret of utter success - it was told to me by an ITT student ' Never underestimate the power of sugar!'. I pondered it for a while, and asked a friend to purchase huge tubs of lollipops next time she went to 'Costco'.
So, after all that research and wasting hours of my life trying to sort out what the hell the latest acronym meant, the answer to well behaved and high achieving kids was - 100 CHUPA CHUPS!!!! I've not shared this with too many of my colleagues in case they do the same and can you imagine the sheer misery of having hyperactive creatures last lesson, who are high on all of those additives and sugar!!!
My classes have no teeth but I am relishing the KS3, GCSE and A Level results this year - its amazing what even an 18yr old hulk will do for the last blackcurrent one in the tub - and no I didn't ever tell him that I'd taken all of the others out as I knew they were his faves!!! My subject was the only coursework he had in on time, redrafted to an excellent standard, and he had 100% attendance - thank the Lord for CHUPA CHUPS :j :j
Sorry to have hijacked your money saving/spinning thread, I just saw an opportunity to pass on some 'valuable' - and free Inset to colleagues.:rotfl:
Take care,
Tilly
xx
I can see how a chuppa chup would be a good incentive to behave though:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Another teacher - ad loving the thread - esp "typical teachers stil can't stop talking about work...." SOOOO true!!
My best advice for money mking is def matched betting - start reading the threads and again and again, it is well worth the initial confusion. Other than that i am trying to do as much Mystery shopping as poss in between playing the most addictive game in the world... http://www.thenewbestsite.com/playGame.php?gameId=31
told my boyf I was far too busy with money making to do the tidying/cleaning up today but I was really playing computer games wildly!!!
Hey ho lets all enjoy the break - and I love nice new books, sharp pencils and orderly boxes of colouring crayons too... have been resisting the lollies but may well have to give in soon...
Enjoy the holidays one and all!! :beer:DFW Nerd #1310 -
If you purchase stationery and stickers from WH Smith then remember to get their loyalty card. Very often they have coupons for £2 of points when you spend £5. They also have coupons at the moment for £5 off when you spend £15 in the week before school starts in September. :j
If going for threshold then look out for their coloured stickers to colour code your appendix (very handy when lots of items are cross referenced.)
Once your credit card is paid off then think about opening a cash isa. Once you get your pay rise in September use part of that money to fund your savings. If you set aside a percentage of pay rises or windfalls to use as savings you won't notice the difference in your monthly income and your savings will grow.MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000

Hi All; yet another teacher here. Funny isn't it how we keep crawling out of the woodwork, am just starting to resurface after the end of term. Defo don't want to talk or be reminded about work though..........need a break. Thanks for all the info on matched betting, will start reading and give it a go.0

petite_anglaise wrote: »Okay, so only 10 mins after I challenged myself I've already failed in one area - I fed the cat on Whiskas this morning, gve him a lecture about being a fussy eater and how mummy needed to save money on his hideously expensive catfood, how he was too easily seduced by premium brands like I was ......
He's just thrown up all over the hall carpet (which I hasten to add is a tasteful but thoroughly impractical shade of oatmeal).
And is now lookng at me like 'see I told you I only ate IAMs'
Bad cat.
Congratulations for dealing with your debt!
One thing though! Iam's is not good for your cat! I was advised by my vet to take my kitty off this brand because of what it contains. Also Iam's test on animals  - I have seen undercover filming and what they do to beagles is not worth thinking about!!! Do your kitty a favour, switch him/her to a complete dry food such as Hills science plan - this is far superior to anything like whiskas or Iam's which has a high mineral content (this can lead to urinary tract problems) and a dry food is much better for kitty's teeth too. I buy a 2kg bag and it lasts over a month - at the moment Jollyes have a promotion on - £8.99 per bag + £3 off next purchase. If kitty is not used to dry food, you might have to mix it in whith what he/she usually eats then slowly reduce the other. Good luck!!!
P.s. No I dont work for Hills!!!:rotfl:You cant have everything; where would you put it?

How sad is this - So excited about the advice, tips and things suggested on here that I got up at 6am, e.g. normal school day getting up time, to get started!:rotfl:
So far today,
THE GOOD :A
1) Counted up all the Quidco FREE money made in last two days - £24! That's with not having bought anything, but just signing up for free trials of mags, films, clicking search engines etc. Still got loads to do to! And I've even written down which dates I have to cancel things by!
... anyone would think I was organised!
2) Signed up online for WHSmith clubcard - Can't believe I don't have one, I thought I had encyclopaedic knowledge of every loyalty card and points card available!
3) Listed 6 things on the TES website to flog to afforementioned innocent PGCE students
4) Sent two of my old mobile phones off to Envirophone and went through Quidco as well. Got one other phone but it's broken and don't know what's wrong with it. Anyway I can make any money from it?
5) Ironed, artfully photographed and described 13 items of clothing for Ebay. Always think it's a nightmare being petite when buying clothes but they seem to sell really well on Ebay!
6)Sent off for 8 freebies and got some free 'girly items' through the post already today - always come in handy!
7) Listed books on Amazon instead of Greenmetropolis, so hope for better success there!
THE BAD
- Now confused on the IAMs situation. Was happy it was on offer, but the advice about it being bad for kitty and being advised not to use by vet has confused me. I was advised by the cat protection league to use it when I got him - Though as she failed to mention the fact that he is special needs and should have an ASBO, should I have listened to her advice?!!
Any further thoughts?
AND THE UGLY...
Seduced into buying gorgeous white lilies from market on way home from town, went to costa coffee to meet up with friends and talk school (NOO!!)
Spent £6!!! And forgot to even hand over the stampy card thing. And as it was raining, not only did I take the car and not wlak, but I spent £1.50 on parking as I couldn't be bothered to wal from the free carpark.
What;s the point of getting excited about freebies worth pennies if i then spend over £10 in two hours!! Agh..
Memo to self; I do not need more shoes....::rotfl:0 -
Hello
Just wanted to check that you know that lillies are poisonous to cats - I think it is the pollen.
Bunnylady x0 -
Yeah, thanks very much for that info Bunnylady. Fortunately do know this, hence why I am to be found removing pollen from lillies once they have opened with kitchenroll and why my friends say what on earth are you doing?!

I'm a recently made redundant nurse, and sounds like your worklife is a mental as mine was. try to clear out your cupboards, I found massess, and I do mean masses of stuff, 4 bottles of window cleaner and I don't even use the stuff. I never bought any cleaning products, dishwasher tablets, for at least 8 weeks after losing my job. As they say every penny counts!! I have been putting books etc on amazon . (by the way whilst tidying I found heaps of padded envelopes, parcel tape and sellotape, again saving cash). I also realised last week that I hadn't cancelled my union subscriptions so that was another £15.04 a month saved.
good luck you will be really surprised just how much you can save. you never know you may join the next olympic money challenge, I have and it is such good fun, and really focuses you on every last penny. :money:0
