Would appreciate your advice - E-Bay sale

Good morning,

I won and pay for by cheque which the seller has cashed, a Playstation 2, the seller stated on the listing that he would send it Recorded Delivery.

However after waiting 10 days for it (after cheque clearance) he said he posted it and I have not yet recieved it, I have requested the Recorded Delivery number several times but he seems very reluctant to e-mail me the number. Today he e-mailed me and said their was a strike for two days (if their was I wasn't aware of it) and that his GF had been down to the Post office to enquire about the parcel, Why would she do that?

What would you do, I appreciate that I must wait a wee bit longer, but what should I do if it doesn't arrive. I have excellent 100% feedback from 919 members, he has 15 at 100%.

I would appreciate your advice, I normally only buy things from Paypal sellers, so I am unsure what I can do if it doesn't turn up.

I have noticed that I have put this on the wrong board - could the mods please move it over to the E-Bay board. Sorry. Too much wine and not enough sleep!

There has been a few postal strikes going on around the country so that might have screwed it about. I'd suggest waiting till monday and if it hasn't arrived pursue it.

Remember, since you sent a cheque you have their address so could always 'pay them a visit'!

Thanks fudgeukraine, but I don't think I will be paying a visit. I have just checked E-Bay website and if it doesn't turn up by Friday I will open an dispute with them, something is not right with this purchase, he will not e-mail the number of the Recorded Delivery I paid for..

He should of sent in registered post, recorded delivery is only a receipt there is no come back on RM at all. The registered posts is to cover him self for any come back. The onus is on him claim should the item be lost in post but as its recorded he wont be able to claim the full value.

There has only been two strike days as well, the goods should have been delivered by now but a few days wont do any harm.

Also this would be best in Ebay forum as there is a better chance of getting a good reply. I am no ebay expert at all, I only ever use it if I have no real choice or a bargain, far too many con merchants on there for my liking

Poppycat is not correct on Record Delivery.

Recorded Delivery requires a signature, provides online tracking, and provides compensation (which the sender can upgrade to a higher amount).

I would report him/her to ebay for non delivery. I would also ask again for the recorded delivery details or at least proof or posting.

You might have to chalk this one down to experience. You should leave bad feedback for this person, but only after you have let ebay look into it for you. The seller will retailiate by leaving bad feedback for you. I've done it several times myself because I can't be intimidated by bad feedback and it hasn't harmed my reputation when they have left bad feedback.

The parcel still might turn up.

    Good Luck

10 days is ample time, even with the 2 days strike. Also, the avoidance of giving you details doesn't look good.

I would report it now, you've been patient enough.

I was victim of this kind of fraud once, and I left it for several days as per ebay's instructions to contact the seller, who fobbed mne off while he set about disappearing. He deregistered, and his phone number and address turned out to be false. I had planned on paying him a visit, so maybe it was just as well...

Ebay were worse than useless, all they want is their cut.

I would contact TS in your area, see what they suggest.

I'd report it now for item not received. It may just kick them up the bum to get them to chase it or send it if they haven't done so already.

I've sent parcels this week via 2nd class (after the strike) and they've got there in a couple of days so the strike shouldn't have caused too much of a delay.

Recorded delivery is only a receipt it isn't guaranteed or insured unlike registered post, it is treated very differently to recorded delivery, I use to work for RN, you have to sign for Registered delivery when postman picks it up at PHG's office, recorded is sent through normal posts, in a bag with all the letters to the sorting office

    Recorded is
    • Proof of posting
    • Signature on delivery
    • Online tracking
    • Up to £34 compensation
    • Prices from 70p plus normal postage
    Registered is
    • Guaranteed delivery before 1.00pm
    • 99%* UK coverage
    • Online tracking
    • Up to £2,500 compensation
    • Prices start at £4.30. See full price list

You've just contradicted yourself Poppycat. As you said:
    Recorded is
    • Proof of posting
    • Signature on delivery
    • Online tracking
    • Up to £34 compensation
    • Prices from 70p plus normal postage

    contradicting
recorded delivery is only a receipt

As noted earlier, the amount of compensation available on Recorded can be upgraded.

Also, the information that you referred to as Registered is actually Special Delivery.

Well I knew it was a small amount but no where near enough to compensate for the loss, and in any case it should be the sender who looses out as they didnt send it through a registered post, recorded is pretty well useless in this case
