You said you were accustomed to Audis so it's unlikely you will be much impressed with anything non-German engineered ever again.

So yes it's your fault. ;)

You need an Opal (OK - call it a Vauxhall) VW, BMW, or M-Benz to get the same feedback from the controls and the responsiveness you're looking for.

But as JustinR said - try a USA designed product - if you want feather light steering and absolutely no feedback at all.

But first check the power steering has enough fluid in it.
  • "You need an Opal " Surely not!

so you mean that German engineering is the gold standard for responsiveness and drive behaviour?

    how do I check that?
  • Jesus wept, how do you get anything done in life? Do you have to ask everyone around you for guidance of every aspect of life?

Literally every question you've asked could be answered via google and a visit yo a used car lot to try out some different cars.

Not necessarily - I wouldn't put it quite like that - but compared to Mitsubishi Colt - yes.

this has full eps so no fluid to check, they do suffer from ecu problems which can cause heavy steering at all times but they can be rebuilt

You recently had the criteria of maximum mpg and auto, on a budget.
What did you expect, a great car to drive?
You have compromises to make when on a budget with such tight criteria.
The only driving pleasure you can expect is the mpg readout.
