Push fit aren't really a problem, but if it's all done in push fit, the 'plumber' probably doesn't know how to solder a copper fitting, if yours doesn't leak there's no reason to have it re done.

Why do people continue to work on bet guess estimates! Fixed price quotes should always be sought. That way both parties know before a tool is lifted what the invoice will be

Because that's the cheapest way to get the gob done
  • So do I refuse to pay for bits such as tools he can use again, tile spacers etc?

    We don't reuse spacers ! Cost £3 for a bag off 500

Consumables should be part of the materials price

  • where is this picture of the rad in question?!

the consumables need to be paid for from somewhere... the plumber gave you an estimate of parts etc but what is actually used on the job could be very different. unfortunately the amount of parts and consumables actually required often changes as the job progresses.

thats why a fixed price quote is best and not an estimate.

as for push fit, even time served plumbers might use it for speed, but the material cost is more than using copper.. it should only be used where it cant be seen. if installed correctly it is pefectly adequate.
