plumbers bill

hi everyone

I've had my bathroom refitted and received the invoice
is it normal for the plumber to add a list of expenses, understand paying for supplies needed for example pipes and fittings needed for the job but also included is sponges etc and a miscellaneous cost for tiles spaces, solder etc

I assumed this sort of thing is part of their day rate/ quote?

I only got a list because I requested it.

Did you accept a fixed quote or just pay a day rate?

If it's a fixed quote then there shouldn't be any extra to pay unless it's been agreed with you at some point in the job, on a day rate I should imagine there would be 'consumables' but shouldn't really be much compared to what you have payed for the bathroom.

Why do people continue to work on bet guess estimates! Fixed price quotes should always be sought. That way both parties know before a tool is lifted what the invoice will be

  • yes we agreed a price plus he said parts would be around £100 but its £220 including scourers, tiling sponge, spacers etc which seems abit much?

    Two questions.

It's your bathroom so who would you expect pays for the solder?

Why is a plumber buying tile spacers?
  • the price included refit and tiling the bathroom.
I'm just not sure if this should be part of the price or not. he used push fit fittings anyway. I just assumed things like that would be considered in the quote.

  • I wouldn't be paying a plumber to tile, however looking at you towel rad he's not a plumber either.
  • Guess I made a poor judgement it's not that easy to find trade people

Push fit and compression fittings... I just saw the towel rail too! £200+ is way over the top! Like andyhop says always get a fixed quote and pay just what was quoted.
  • I haven't paid, so should I refuse to pay extra?
Also r push fits not good? Do I need to get it redone?!

Push fits have their place but an old school plumber will prefer copper.
