Christmas spend 2014

Out of interest, what do people spend on Xmas? Have got £600 in budget for pressies, cards, wrap and crackers. I always have a £600 budget (excluding food which is paid for by nectar points), but I always go over, and I'm thinking I really shouldn't.
I know it depends on how many people you have to buy for, but just looked online and saw that average predicted spend this year comes in at just under £400. I don't think I'm being extravagant, but clearly I am, so just wondered about everyone else.

I have a similar budget to you, but £150 of that is for my Hubby's birthday which is 2 days before so I save for it in the Christmas pot! We have big families but also like to spoil each other with material things, so we could spend less if we needed to, but as its saved for this makes sense to have a great time and use it! I will still try to get as many bargains as possible and love looking online!

We spend up to £600.
That's up to £100 on our two children, £50 each on each other (me and OH) and £300 on the 20 family members we buy for. Through bargain hunting, I'm on target to spend around £500.
That figure is just for presents. We go to family for dinner - the children barely eat, so there is no point in going overboard on nice food. I don't spend much on cards or wrapping paper.0 -
I have £300 this year and that's for hubby, mum, two children and two grandchildren. I also buy pressies from grandson to his family ( it's complicated) and secret Santa for work. Last year I had £200 and came in £50 under so hoping this is going to be more then enough0

I have loads of stuff around the house I need to ebay/sell including a LV bag and some furniture so I was going to attempt to form my Christmas budget from whatever I sell!0

Just worked out my present/decorations budget for this year - £650
That is for my 2 kids, hubbie, parents, sister, bro in law, 4 nieces, in laws, and 3 other kids. I tend to buy wrapping paper and cards in the sale but always need to buy some bits. I do hope to get my total under budget using coupons, bargain hunting and 3 for 2's etc. Food is separate, again have Xmas pud already for when massively reduced last year still in date, having starting buying non perishables when I see them on offer so spread the cost from oct until Xmas arrive. In reality it is madness to spend so much but we both work hard and I love Xmas and enjoying putting gifts together that I know my family will love:xmassmile:rudolf::snow_laug0 -
I've saved £200 in my Christmas club, so that's my budget for everything. I have presents for my son, Mum, 2 brothers, brother's girlfriend, 1 sister and her husband and 1 nephew, and a. Quite tight budget but we do limit adult pressies to £10. I usually don't have to buy much food in than normal as we go to family for 'the day'.

£100-£150 on each of the children.. a lot is clothes they need anyway, shoes, dressing gown etc, toiletries they use anyway and sweets.. they always get a toothbrush but they only get 3 or 4 actual gifts/special items.
£50 on my mother
£30 on 2 of my sisters and stepdad
£10 on a third sister
£10 on 1 niece and 1 nephew
Then there is the OH.. He gets whatever I think he will like it varies massively!
I saved the meagre amount of child support from KH to cover the childrens stuff, I'd not had any the previous 5 years so not going to miss it.. that has covered most of it .. I have been selling everything I can to make room and money to cover the cost too.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Every time I post my 'budget', I get shouted down for it!
As long as you're spending what you feel comfortable with and are not getting into debt, then that's all that matters.
I could easily buy £800-£1,000's worth of gifts on 10 people. I enjoy spending on people and getting them gifts that they'll love; However, it annoys me when it's not appreciated. So, my sister so far is getting a bottle of wine that I won at work.
I usually get at least £100 worth of gifts for both of my nephews. Mostly because I see things for them that I know they'll love and so I'll get it for them. However, I recently found out that their mother had not been giving them, them. One of my nephews hurt themselves during the Summer and had to go to hospital. He was telling me that his mummy had given him a brand new tablet for being a brave boy - yes, it was the one I had given him for Christmas! Not impressed
This year, they have a big fleecy onesie from M&S each and a pair of stompeez. I plan of giving them a voucher saying that I'll take them to the conservation park that they love - if I give them a voucher for their parents to take them, they'll never goThis means a potential spend of £90 between them. Shopping the offers and making use of the recent m&s groupon meant an actual spend of £57.
For my daughter, she gets a lot of stuff that I would have to buy throughout the year anyway so, although it looks like a lot, it's stuff she needs0
