Travel insurance for a diabetic on insulin ?

Options
Hi all,

Could someone please recommend a company for travel insurance for a diabetic on insulin. For info, he is just going to Guernsey for a few days and has no diabetic complications (touch wood).

Thanks

He has been given a quote of just under £33 for single trip insurance, which is vey excessive. He advises that he never uses diabetes.org.uk as they always give silly prices.

He will try elsewhere for a fairer price.
  • Just a question why do you think £33 is excessive?

You cannot get round the fact that OP has a medical condition which COULD lead to a claim.

What makes you think that his medical condition COULD lead to a claim when he is very controlled, the last time he was admitted to hospital due to his diabetes was in 2010 when he had food poisoning, before that he has never been admitted to hospital due to hypos or hypers apart from when he was first diagnosed in the 1960s, he can control and feel his hypos, has a completely clean driving license for over 30 years, etc. ? so please elaborate ?

He is just as likely to make a claim than anyone else and probably less like than most others; for example somebody that get drunk and falls over.
  • £33 isnt excessive. I've just paid £155 for 14 nights Majorca, Angina Sufferer. Not had an attack for over 8 years. I dont object to it. I just keep thinking of all the people who DONT get insurance, have a problem abroad. Family start begging on facebook for donations to get them home.
I'd rather have the cover, no matter the price.
£33 is less than the price of a good meal out, with drinks.
  • Fair point but he will look to save money and ensure that he is covered. He and I just hate it when insurance companies are always ripping people off but I suggest that this is just a sad feature of their industry !

Try LV. You can do a medical screen through their online quote system.

Absolutely brilliant ! he has got premuim cover for less than £12-00 and he has been totally honest. I should know as I was with him when he got the insurance. Very impressed with LV.
  • Amazing; one of those rip off insurance companies all of a sudden are brill because of £20 difference in premium.
OP has not compared the cover limits or told us what the excess for these policies are which could be very important if OP has to make a claim.
