Home CCTV

Hi,
I have moved in to a home which has got 3 CCTV's installed. They are wired to a dvr and seems like it is plug and play. Seller informed me that the recordings are stored for 30 days on the dvr and than erased for new recording.
I want to know if there is any way I can replace this dvr with something which would allow me to access the cams remotely through internet.

Many thanks.

You will need to download an App from the makers of the systems website, you can then access and control the DVR remotely from the internet on any computer.

If you replace your existing DVR with a new DVR that has P2P setup it will be easy for you to set-up yourself. You literally scan the QR Code on the main screen with your phone, enter the cloud ID and you are straight in. With some of the older systems (p2p only be out around 4 months) you have to do port forwarding and get your dvr linked to your router. Trust me it can be a right pain even for an it professional as some dvrs dont like some routers.

Big Brother Systems online have a good buy and if you take the Hard Drive out of your old DVR and put it in the new one you only need to buy the one without a hard drive. Its about £39 + vat odd and about £5 delivery and they really help you support wise if you get stuck / talk you through the remote set-up for free.

    Hope you get sorted!

And of course you're nothing to do with that company.

    Model L84 Base Unit.
It does not say anything else. No brand name on the front of the device.
    It is 4 channel.
I want something where in I can connect this to my broadband and be able to access the cameras remotely and at the same time be able to record the video on the dvr. I have no set budget in mind but do not wish to spend a fortune.

    Okay doke:

Things you need to check out.

Where do the cameras get their power from? Where your camera cables come in to the dvr they will split into 2.
One side will be power (mosy likely 12v, but check!)
The other side will be video and should have what is known as a BNC connector on. It will look like a round metal circle with two cut outs on either side. It will push and twist onto the back of the DVR.

Do the cameras get their power direct from the DVR, OR is there a separate transformer/power supply feeding them.

If it is a seperate power supply then happy days.

If the PSU is built into the DVR it's not an issue, it is just a factor you need to consider when buying a DVR.

Now CPC do a decent range of budget/home user DVRs. If you look on their website you will find a few, obviously you don't need to purchase any additional cameras so you want to look for a DVR only package. I haven't come across a new DVR for a few months that hasn't had the option for remote access. It will say on the user spec if it is a feature. As mentioned by another user, providing the DVR enables remote access you can use the manufacturers app if they have one OR any third party remote access app.

All the DVR i have installed have been on ethernet, however QVIS make some decent gear and they do these models that can use there own QVIS wifi dongle.

I couldn't find a 4ch version. Although whenever i install a DVR i always make sure there are channels spare for additional cameras at a later date!

I hope any of these replies help you.
