Will I be able to cancel my contract with Plusnet ?

Hi all,
I went with Plusnet last year for b/band & phone. I took out an upfront 12 month payment for my line rental, which expires during April 2015.
I saw in the MSE newsletter this week the EE offer for b/band and phone. For info, I have read the bad stories with regards EE and so I was not going to go with them. I did however ring Plusnet to see whether they could offer me a better deal, which they did by reducing by monthly bill to £3.49 for unlimited b/band and free evening & w/end calls. They have now put me on a new 12 month contract.
My question is will I be able to cancel the new contract next April, when my 12 month line rental deal finishes as I strongly expect it will cost more money to renew it than what it cost last year ?
Could anyone please advise me.
Thanks

You can always cancel any contract but it usually involves an early termination charge.
As your line rental agreement ends in April then there is no question of any in-contract increase allowing you to cancel it and you would be free to rent your line elsewhere. I doubt any increase in the new price would allow you to cancel the BB+Phone. Another snag is I doubt anywhere would sell you line rental only and your BB+Phone deal almost certainly mandates use of a Plusnet provided line.
Having the line rental contract out of sync with the BB makes moving on a little difficult.
My own PN advance line charge ends in December but the BBcontract was 18 months so I'm in a similar position. I'll probably go for another 12 months advance line payment and sit on my hands with the BB until that time is up then check my options.0 -
Thanks for this.
I will cancel my new contract with Plusnet and wait until my line rental deal finishes during April. I will then see what deals are out there (but will try to avoid EE). Been with TTalk, VM and Sky before and would happily return to them as okay with their customer service. Plusnet has been fine as well.0 -

No I won't as I have a 14 day cooling off period so I have just reverted back to my old contract, where my current pre-paid line rental finishes during April 2015. I still have broadband and will do so until April 2015.0 -
Ah fair enough. It's pretty fair that you get a cooling off period - if you are an existing customer and agree to anything on the phone with Virgin Media you are pretty much stuck with it from stuff I've read.0

Yes I'm in this position too with BT . However my line rental for 12 months finishes next week but I'm in contract till February. I've been told I ll need to pay £72 cancellation fee if I change now.
I don't think I ll be renewing my 12 month line rental , I d really like to change to someone else. Have read the reviews on EE but not very good which is a shame as its a good deal .so may see what Sky have to offer.0
