I love Rockett St George. You can almost always buy their wares, or similar, cheaper elsewhere.

Some of the lighting is in heals, but I think that's more expensive :o

I saw a lovely photo canvas I fancy as wallpaper for our dingy hall last week, a bluebell woods.

Making the most of the darkness, as woods ARE dark, and things I put in there that are sparkly and weird will be like a year round Easter egg hunt or picnic. I just have to decide which wall to do in paper I guess. The other wall will be more expensive and fragile on current plan. The only thing is this plan means no wall art in the hall, so the painting in there ATM will have to somewhere else. Maybe a currently not there bedroom, though its quite a lively and exhausting painting.

Doozer is currently being patient while kiwi runs round him in circles taunting him with toy white rat. Kiwi already tried getting doozer interested in toy owl and failed so he got out toy rat.

I find this particularly funny as doozer always wants to say hi to kiwi and kiwi shies away, so now watching him trying to get doozer's attention is hilarious.

My GP DID call today and as usual was very kind. He is kind, I just don't find him efficient or effective.

    Any way.

I have to back in for a full set of bloods. Unlike the private hospital he doesn't think its worth doing it in one day and suggests I go in twice in one week, a day between. I only have one really good vein, the other arm is a bit pants, so not a bad idea I suppose.

I told him that pain was significantly improved ATM and he said....these things go up and down, that's the problem....he cautioned me against being too optimistic.

PN, I have mild anaemia and low levels of iron in my body. I currently take iron tablets to try to improve things. On one occasion in the past, I had to have iron infusions, as I simply seemed not to be absorbing the iron in my diet and in the tablets. It was not all that serious, and it all sorted itself out fairly easily in the end.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I think the same about NHS spending. They need to give figures on NHS spending per head of UK population, so they can't claim they're giving the NHS more money when the money's gone up by a smaller % than the number of people it needs to serve.

The case of the NHS shows the problem with 'increasing it with inflation' when the CPI rate of inflation bears no resemblance whatsoever to healthcare costs; it's completely meaningless. They may as well link health spending to house prices in Aberdeen. Now I think about it that's probably closer to the cost increases faced by the NHS than CPI!

People living longer is the biggest issue, as in a few years time 25% of hospital admissions will be people with dementia, who are harder to treat, more expensive. Staggering really.

There would be no one watching that there were basic standards attempted to being met nation wide. There would be less protection for teachers and students both.

I agree with everything in your post, but I have no idea how we get the balance right. I have no direct experience of current education (neither still being at school nor having children who are), but there seems to be a focus on passing tests (for league tables, CVs etc). This is all well and good, but we should be teaching children to understand and think rather than to regurgitate an answer that ticks all the words on the marking scheme.

We pride ourselves as a nation on our creative thinking (be it in the arts or science/ engineering), and we will struggle to maintain this. Esp when other nations start to try and nurture this more.

On the same topic there is an article about what makes (or doesn't) different countries' education systems good on BBC News today.

Bit of good news yesterday, Josh is now going to be doing all the drumming for the big school production early next month. He was supposed to be sharing it with another drummer (their normal go to person) but he has now been given all of it and the other lad moved to doing the lighting (Josh's normal role alongside audio at these things)

This is just like the film I saw (and mentioned) and mentioned a few weeks ago - Whiplash. Not sure whether it showcases behaviours you'd want to encourage in Josh, but it's a great film and there is some fab music in it (and lots of drumming).

I think that's for younger people. Studies have been done in the elderly (I googled it). How will you fare when you're 90? It seems iron supplements, lotions/potions, pills and stuff aren't something that would turn things around.

In Scotland instead of A levels you did between four and six H grades in one year, and you had to mix literate and numerate subjects. My subjects were English French, Latin, Physics, Chemistry and Maths. I dropped French halfway through which was a big mistake.

When you go to uni at 17 which was the norm back then, but rarer now, you'd join a faculty not a department in the first year, so you could mix subjects from outside your faculty. Makes it easy to change direction if needed. So I kept on English and took up Philosophy as humanity subjects. Very much enjoyed them, although I focused on Biology later.
