Burning wood on wood burner stove - HELP required!

We find that used cardboard makes a great alternative to kindling. Amazon boxes, cereal boxes and kitchen towel and loo roll centres.
Four rolled up sheets of newspaper tied in a bow on the grate, with a small piece of firelighter on top. A good layer of cardboard over and then two smallish logs on top. I light the firelighter with the air vent under the grate open and the chimney damper open wide. The cardboard catches and gives off a good flame which gets the logs going. I ease back the air inlet and the damper and fine-tune both until the flames look strong but not out of control. Then I add one briquette, refuelling when necessary.0
