Absolutely correct. Where my bruv plays, the golf courses all charged joining fees before April 2013. Where he plays now, they don't charge a joining fee and the other clubs, which I mentioned in my OP, don't charge anything either.
It is just the neardanthal clubs like Parkstone and Broadstone that live in a bygone age. They will learn, even after 120 years of surviving, that they will have to change their business model to survive or the same will happen to them as the other dinosaurs lol !!
Yep, your post has only reinforced my belief that golfers are a***holes.
Anyone from the golf club you are whining on about who has the misfortune to find this thread will undoubtedly be thanking the gods that the membership enquiry was ignored.0 -

You forgot to add the classic,...... golf, a good walk ruined.
And to be honest up to only a few years ago , I would have agreed with you.
But after a health scare, I needed to get some exercise, golf gives me a chance to walk in company for about 4 hours a time , twice a week. Have met some nice people. Why do you think golfers are
' a***holes'.?? What do they do to offend you? How many have you met?0 -

I used to play years ago before I moved, and have friends who still play. Really can't see where you are coming from with your statement. What are you basing your views on?0 -
I've started playing footgolf. It's basically golf but you kick a football around a golf course instead (obviously the holes are bigger). It's good fun. I recommend it!0

He has suggested to B/stone that both of these are errors on their website because their competitors (K/Heath, Dudsbury, etc. and North Foreland in Kent, which is far superior to their club) do not require a joining fee and are after more members. He has not received a response.
So you and your brother think that Broadstone cannot be successful (i.e. close to full membership) because other clubs in the area and one in Kent (!) have plenty of space for new members?
Maybe the facilities and course at the other clubs are not as good, maybe they are further from an affluent catchment area, maybe they are not as well organised...loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
geez where is this guy coming from , so he didnt get an email response OMG run to the hills
i expect we have all sent an email to a company to enquire and not got a reply but we dont come on here and name and shame them"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0 -
LOL, knowing the area I suspect Parkstone and Broadstone only take millionaires - is your brother a millionaire?
Has he enquired about the Isle of Purbeck club? It's in a beautiful spot and has no joining fee.

Imho, it's less 'shame on Parkstone and Broadstone golf clubs' and more 'shame on the OP's brother' for telling an organisation how to run their business.
I can't understand why he even challenged their joining fees, let alone chased them up for a response.
Still, I bet the letter has done the rounds in the club and caused some considerable amusement.0 -

Totally agree !! Mmmm...Not sure that Parkstone or B/stone is a millionaire's playgrounds as you suggest. Around the golf course at P/stone, there are some very nice properties but most of the other areas in P/stone are a lot less desirable to be diplomatic. There are some very nice places in B/stone as well and IMHO, this is far better area to live than P/stone.
I used to live in the Poole and Bournemouth area and probably played most, if not all, of the courses around the Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire area.
My favourite was always the Isle of Purbeck. Just an amazing course and even better views; especially from the clubhouse and good 'Old Arry' Harry Redknapp plays there. I have met him twice up there and he is a luvly guy !
IMHO, this course is far better than B/stone or Parktone (NOTE : I have played both of these a number of times via my previous employer's golfing society). The only issue is that it effectively in the middle of nowhere; just a few miles from Swanage. It is okay for Harry as he can just use the Sandbanks ferry to get there.
For me, I would rather pay the petrol money to get to the Purbeck course than pay a joining fee at B/stone or Parkstone for the first year. After the first year, when it wouldn't be so cost effective, I would go for Bulbury or Knighton Heath.
For me, I understand the OP and his/her brother not wanting to pay a joining fee for any golf club today. It is just a sign of the times and if any club wants to generate via charging income with joining fees, good luck to them but I can't see them existing for that much longer if they want to survive in the current market.
By the way, Meyrick Park, which is a municipal course in Bournemouth, is another fantastic place to play. If I remember correctly, the 14th is one of Pete Alliss's favourite holes in the UK and you can see why when you play it. Just amazing !!
So if you don't want to pay a joining fee at P/stone or B/stone, try Purbeck golf course for first year and then look at Meyrick Park, Knighton or Bulbury after that.0
