15 How many people have starred as Doctor Who in the TV series of the same name?

There have been 12 "main" Doctors, but I don't know the answer as lots of others have also "starred" - see HERE

Personally, I wouldn't count any of the "doubles", but there is a good case for including Richard Hurndall and John Hurt to make 14. I would also discount the others who played characters with other names who were "later revealed" to be manifestations of the Doctor.

A few sites say just 1 - General Fulbright, but IMDB Trivia says 5

During the entire series, only five people died on-screen. They include Gen. 'Bull' Fulbright (Jack Ging), who got shot in the back by a hostile during an operation working together with the A-Team. The deaths of at least three more characters were left ambiguous.
