I too would go the general builder route. You can get plenty of local references.
I see the op is waiting for the newbie.0 -

Yeah but that was furnished;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
No, they are waiting to see if someone has used either of the companies.
Yes indeed they are, but they have already made up their minds.
Maybe money saving advice isn't what they want?, begs a question of why ask it on MSE?
And maybe the fact that no-one has used any of them is a clue.
OP, what exactly do you want building or put another way what would you get for £50k?I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

By the look of it a posh shed.0 -
I've not had any personal experience of employing them but my children's first school used this company a few years back and the garden escape is very beautiful and I've not heard of any problems with it. They do residential as well, but dealing with schools they do need to be professional.

With anything like this, I'd ask for telephone numbers of happy clients and the opportunity to look at previous work.
Martin does talk about saving money on expensive things as well. It's about value too. If you can save money by asking for recommendations and not making an expensive mistake, brilliant. You want lots and lots of lovely insulation in these buildings and building control to oversee it and ensure it complies. A granny annexe should be overseen by them anyway - it isn't an 'outbuilding' which is exempt.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Would it not be better spending 50k on something attached to the home and made of a similar material?
Something that could be knocked through and add additional space to the current home if it were ever sold. Not everyone wants or needs a 50k shed in the garden. It wouldn't put me off buying such a place but I wouldn't pay a premium for it.0 -
Yes it has to be said that is simply not going to add any value to your home, unless the next one in is a pigeon fancier.
But, on the other hand, if an extension is impossible for whatever reason, then why not, it's your money, but you have to expect the suggestions as valid on a mse forum, mind you, I wouldn't want my MIL living in the same house either:A;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
