NETGEAR - Internet Problems!!!

My internet is playing up. It is connected now but barely, I say this because the internet sign logo has a red cross on it but somehow im still on the internet, the netgear logo is green which shows I am connected.
The logog turns red after a while about 10-20mins and then I have to reconnect....I have to go through this long process to reconnect:
- Open wireless connections
- Go on advance settings, then properties on my connection.
- Unclick 'the key is provided for me automatically' and then enter the network key/password and click ok.
This then brings the internet back up, I figured this out after trying several things, but why this way? How comes its never happened before? Tried changing the adapter and putting it into different USB ports, no luck!
I dont like the look of the cross on the internet logo, it should be just a picture of a computer and flash blue like any other internet connection.
Sorry, not very techie, so, apologies for some of the terms used above, pelase help! I can't keep doing the above process every 10mins!
THANKS!

Are you letting windows manage the wireless, or netgear software?

Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Yes, I am. I even tried deselecting that but obviously didnt work, that is always on and windows always configures it, thats always been there like that so I dont think thats the issue.0

is your preferred network set to to automatic (i.e. connect when in range), and under advanced, infrastructure only
any other networks in the area on nearby channels?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Yes it is. There were a few other connections which my computer was detecting earlier on but now there are non in range only mine which is named 'Xnet'.
Also, I dont have to do the above steps to make it reconnect to the internet, I just have to go on adnave settings for wireless connections, once the window/box pops up I just click OK, thats it! and it reconnects.
What is going on? Its doing my head in.0 -
if you do the above steps, it may reconnect automaticallyEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Thats how it all looks like. It's on Automatic, isnt it?0 -
yes, still worth doing the infrastructure only thing.
Do you have a wireless scanner thing with the netgear software, if not, download netstumbler, to see what else you can find out there, and more importantly, what channels they are using. Then try changing you router settings to be 5 channels away.
Are you using WEP or WPA? Are you on a different floor/room to the router?
you should be able to fix it by right clicking the wireless icon, and repair.

Using WEP. On 2nd floor, router is on 3rd floor passage way, roughly 5 metres away, nto far, so, cant be a signal strength problem.
I tried clicking repair and the problem doesnt seem to go away, thats the first thing I done, been doing it againa and again.
Downloading programme now...0
