O/S Daily Thread Friday 10th October

Time_to_face_the_music

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
Running very late so it's a real dash but am happy because it's Friday
No idea what's for dinner so better raid the freezer on my way out.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Morning :hello:
Hope you're all OK x
I didn't manage to sleep yesterday afternoon, so I started my snake. He's very colourful
I went to bed at 9pm but was still awake at 11, not sure what time I dropped off. Then woke up this morning at 4am. I've got an appointment with the osteopath this morning so I'll have one more coffee then I'll drag myself into the shower. Shopping after that, then hopefully nothing.

Morning everyone.
Feeling better this morning but still going to see doc. Have to ring up first thing for an appointment, hope for one this afternoon as I need to get there from Glasgow.
Thanks for the good wishes yesterday. I fell asleep again at about 9.30am and only woke just after 3pm. And I slept soundly last night.
Hope everyone is doing fine, the dark mornings are no help!0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Well it's a wet and windy North Devon this morning. I feel very sorry for my girls who have a long walk to school in it although they refuse to wear a coat so my sympathy lessens somewhat.
Gers, glad you are feeling a bit better now.
Tru - hope all goes well with the osteopath.
TTFTM - I'm also very happy it's Friday!
Hubby is having another day off today which is lovely although it makes me realise how much I miss him while he is in work. Ah well, I'll keep buying my lottery tickets and dreaming.
I'm going out for lunch today so I won't have to cook tea tonight as the girls will have pasta carbonara and they can make that themselves. I'm also looking at different recipes I can convert to slow cooker cooking. I'm attempting a braised red cabbage next week with sausages and mash. I think Frugal Queen's blog is going to be talking about using her slow cooker so I will be looking at it with interest.
Well that's all my waffle for today, hope everyone manages to have a great day despite the weather and hugs are freely given to all who would like one. Take care xx0 -
Morning All
Damp and gloomy this morning, washing going on airers. Could have dried outside yesterday but the weather forecast got it all wrong!
Gers - Glad you are feeling a bit better.
tru - Congrats on the job.The snake sounds interesting!
Have a hug if you need one.
Woke up this morning with a very sore eye. That and the sore throat and tickly cough I have been trying to ignore mean I am not feeling 100%. Typical when this is the my last day before a week off!
Managed to get quite a few 'little' jobs done yesterday, sorted out the gas and electric payment - I am about £450 in credit so have changed my monthly payment! Also get a years breakdown cover with the new car so have changed the AA payment to the minimum - that saved £20 a month, partly as we only have 1 car now. Paying the difference into the credit union account as I can't get to it easily there.
Another in-service day today, lots of meetings (boring) but lunch out so that's a bonus.
Enjoy your Friday everyone. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Wet and miserable here, I am so glad its Friday seems to have been an extra long week.
Its been a year today that we lost dad so we are all getting together tonight to have something to eat and raise a glass to him, I miss him every day and still talk to him all the time, off to work for me, we will have some kind of takeaway tonight so no cooking. DD will be home for the night as her and her grandad were very close so it will be a hard day all round.
Please tell those people close to you that you love them today.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone
redruby - big hugs x
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, but dry underfoot at the moment, and air does seem a bit warmer. Was lovely yesterday morning with a good wind so good for drying the washing on the line, but then clouded over and we had a very heavy downpour just as the children were coming out of school.
DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early. DS1 up and gone to work.
Dinner last night was a bit disjointed as DH was late in, so boys and myself had egg, bacon, chips, beans and mushrooms early then DH had his when he got in. Tonight will be an easy dinner of chicken and bacon kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk, I’ll be having mushroom omelette and salad or jacket potato and salad will chose later. Not happy that the menfolk are having chips 2 nights, but things didn’t go to plan yesterday, so DH had suggested takeaway and I didn’t want to go down that route so needed to produce a meal quickly!
Hospital visit didn’t go to plan – FIL arrived really early and I was there much earlier than my appointment time so that was fine, and as it was early there wasn’t hardly anyone else about so they took me straight down to x-ray – was x-rayed, and I asked if the break looked to be healed and was told that they wouldn’t pass judgement and that the doctor would look at it in detail when I went back to the Fracture Clinic! So I got the feeling it wasn’t going to be good news – once with the doctor he showed me those x-rays – and you can still see the break although it is healing and you can see the bone growth too – but he said it’s not mended enough to be able to take the plaster off so I’ve still got the plaster on and signed off again for another 4 weeks, and there could still be a chance that they will need to operate if it doesn’t mend, but he did say that in 4 weeks they will take the plaster off but what happens after that is unknown at the moment. So FIL stopped off at my work to hand in my new sick certificate for the next 4 weeks and they copied it and I have a copy, Manager and Union Rep are doing a home visit on Monday afternoon. I was really disappointed as you can imagine, but know that it’s not as bad as it could be, and there’s loads of people worse off than myself and for that I am very grateful, just need to get on with it now.
Have a good Friday everyone x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
I didn't post yesterday, but caught up last night and want to send big hugs to everyone having a hard time, especially Judi xx
Red ruby- thinking of you today, I hope you can all have a few smiles amidst the tears tonight x
Nlmc - sorry that the plaster is staying on for now
We also had a windy day yesterday so managed to get two washes done although I had to bring them in at lunchtime for an hour when it rained hard.
I made my firsts ever mushroom soup and it was fab! I used a Fanny Cradock recipe and it was very easy and came out nice and thick, I will definitely make it again
I need to go shopping with DS2 today as he needs new shoes. I'm also going to do a quick food shop. Is anyone else getting freaked out by all this Ebola news? It really scares me so I think I'm going to stop watching tv for the moment. I'm very scared at the thought of it becoming widespread over here
Have a good day all, and big hugs for those who need them x0 -
Good Morning chums, well wet'n'windy here at the moment, I am hoping the nurse will take the last drain out today which will make me a bit more comfortable at least. I slept quite well last night and only woke up twice which was good. Just seen on the news that 2 students at DGS Uni have suggested a 'Go with the flow' campaign to save water Ugh sounds disgusting so I have emailed him to say don't even think about it Ben
:):) ( don't think he would as he is very fussy about cleanliness bless him) bit like weeing in the swimming pool
Well another week has whizzed by, DD has the weekend off which is nice for her as she does work so hard bless her. I have my first hospital appointment next Monday to see the consultant and hopefully get the stitches out:)
Onwards and upwards chums I have had enough of laying around and want to get back to 'normal' again:):)
Cheers chums and thanks for all your kind messages

Hi everyone,
I missed posting yesterday because I was driving up to mum's house and then over to the Yorkshire house so I was shattered by the time I got here.
We've finally got mum and dad's house on the market - the end of an era, mum and dad lived in it from their marriage in 1955 and it actually belonged to granddad who lived next door in the house where mum was born, so all her 82 years she lived within the same 100 yards.
Today I'll be doing a bit of cleaning here, we had to leave in such a hurry last time to take DD to catch a train that there were a few jobs we didn't get done.
Redruby, I hope the day goes well.
NMLC sorry you didn't have better news at the hospital.
Judy, I hope your DD is getting better.
JO, at the risk of being thought dirty I don't think that the go with the flow idea is bad. Urine is sterile so as long as it's washed down the plughole by soapy water there is no risk to anyone - it's just the idea of it that makes people shudder.
Have a good day.0
