I've bought them from John Lewis before, but now use a local homebrew shop.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

If you have no luck with the other suggestions then you can cut your own discs from greaseproof paper and dip them in alcohol before using them

I used to do this and it hardly uses any spirit at all - I have used brandy or vodka in the past - nor do you flavour your preserve. I would use a teaspoonful in a saucer to dip circles for 7-10 jars

I get mine from the local newsagent, strangely enough. They have a stand with all sorts of things like elastic bands, parcel labels and string etc, plus packs of jam pot covers and discs.

My, what a lot of jam making questions today :j I'll merge this thread with a previous one on waxed discs, to keep all ideas together.

Of course we have ;):D Several recipes here - homemade jam.

    Hi PP.

Your link to homemade jam isn't working :(

We're going to be venturing into the jam making process :j so the link would have been handy.

  • Can anybody tell me if it's alright to use pickling vinegar for chutney? I want to make some tomato and apple chutney with my glut of tomatoes but I can't seem to get pickling spices anywhere. Do they sell them all together or do you have to buy them seperately? I have some pickling vinegar that I bought for pickled onions and wondered if I could use that.

Does anyone know where I can buy the wax circles for home made jam pots? Or any suggestions for cheap or free substitutes please.

I have made some blackberry and apple jam, with free fruit and jars, so don't want to pay the earth for wax circles and covers.

    Many thanks.

I think you can use the inner bags from breakfast cereals but hopefully someone else will be on in a minute who knows a bit more about it than me.

Wilkos do them quite reasonably priced, with nice covers and labels too.

    Try Lakeland.co.uk, Amazon.co.uk, Robert Dyas.
