Wax Circles / Discs for Jam making anyone?

To make the jars look really special, after using the waxed circles that go onto the jam in the jars, and the tops with elastic that go over the top of the jars - ok - get some small gingham check, or other 'folksy' fabric, Cut a circle of fabric about an inch bigger all round than the jar top and put that over the top with elastic band with another elastic band.
If you have pinking shears pink the fabric. If not just cut it.
You can put thin ribbon over the elastic band.
Is this very confusing? I know what I mean. The jar looks as if it has a mob cap on.0 -
Just wanted to say that Lakeland looks like a good option. I'm hoping to give some various jams and chutney items along with Christmas presents if I turn out to be god at it!Also made some cracking shortbread from a WI recipe this week so might also put that in the hampers.xx
If you are making chutney then you can't use the wax discs as the vinegar will evaporate - you must use proper lids, which have the coating over the metal - ie like most jars that food come in - there is a plastic coating over the inside of the lid.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

HI Sam-i-am....any chance of sharing the shortbread recipe please?? I want to make some for my hampers but have been experimenting for a couple of months and can't find a recipe that's just right0

I use 1 tsp of whisky/brandy on top of the jam and a screw top lid. Never had mould and am still using some 3 years old and good as yesterday. No need for wax disc0

Now I have a question - if you use jam jars as in the links, do you have to process the jars or can you fill them with the hot jam + leave them to cool? I've made jam for years but have always used mason jars, which are hard to get here and you don't have to process them when making jam.0

Morrisons

Jam pot covers, discs, labels and elastic bands.
If you are jam making as a hobby why not get neighbours and friends to collect empty jars/lids for you. wash and sterilise before use. Give them a jar of jam to say thanks0 -

I'm just about to make some jam with the lovely strawberries we picked on a farm yesterday, but unfortunately i've realised i've got no waxed discs to put on the jam before i put the jam jar tops on. I can't use an old cereal packet as i haven't got one.....any advice? Thanks0

On the television programme about Village Shows and competitions the judges when selecting the winning preserves frowned on the inclusion of the waxed disks and marked down those entries they said they were not needed as the jars are fully airtight.0
