Upgrades on British Airways flights

As a silver card holder in the past I got regular upgrades including club to first from Detroit to LHR and economy to club from LHR to Tel Aviv for me and Mrs Joe
Since retiring and having zero BA status we sit at the back for European flights and save up our Avios for long haul0 -
I do know someone who had multiple upgrades from economy to business or first.
His secret was to be a gold member and be dating a BA employee.
Little to do with being Gold and potentially all to do with being the second.
A colleague's fiance is a BA manager and she has flown First fairly often for peanuts but she has also had to sit on one of the attendants seats when the flight was over booked.
Whilst not BA Gold I have One World Emerald which is equivalent to BA Gold plus more Avios points than you shake a very big stick at (plus BA Silver, not that I use it much due to Emerald status) but never had more than a 1 level upgrade with BA
As per previous post the only time when I have had more than a one grade upgrade has been when the airline has messed up badly and Ive been bumped to another flight or such rather than a random goodwill guesture0 -

I'm flying to Chicago in a couple of weeks, flying with British Airways for the first time ever. I was wondering if anyone had ever had any luck as a couple getting bumped up to Business or First from cattle class on BA? I know a few people who have been upgraded, but they were usually flying solo.

As others have mentioned - unlikely, just be prepared to fly in the cabin you have paid for.0 -
Myself, my 10 year old and my 8 year old were upgraded this summer - not on BA. So 3 people upgraded, 2 of them kids. I was wearing trainers and denim crops. Kids were wearing hoodies.
I joined the frequent flyer scheme before we flew - first flight ever with the airline.
No rhyme nor reason to it - just very grateful!
Downside is daughter now wants to travel in business when we fly next time as she got a chef cooking exactly what she wanted to eat, she had a bed to lie in while she watched what she wanted on the TV and she had 5 hot chocolates!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

The flight was full - could have been upgraded as we were nice to check in lady. The check in staff were yelling at each other about seating groups together and releasing seats and others taking them. I just smiled and said something like it sounds like a busy flight. Let her resolve seating issues with colleagues whilst checking me in and was just generally nice and pleasant to her as it seemed like she was having a horrid day. I didn't want to moan or whinge at her for taking as long as she did as it would have made her day worse.
Next thing I know we're getting new tickets at the boarding gate - I thought we'd been reissued seats and split up due to the seating issues I saw at check in. I said how I hoped I was still sitting with my kids and she apologised that I wasn't anymore, but we'd been upgrded to business class, if that was okay, and she promised to look after the kids for me on the flight.
So not only did I have the business class seat, I had the business class seat with 2 sets of curtains and a galley between my kids and I, as business was over 2 cabins. Sheer bliss!!!!!!
It was with Gulf air, not the most amazing airline in the world, but I'm really not complaining as my £515 economy return to Bangkok was a steal. And then they upgraded us
:D:D Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

We got an upgrade Trivandrum to Dubai for £65 each a few years back with Emirates. We were also offered the Dubai to Glasgow sector for an extra £250 each
It was by email a few days b4 the flight.0 -

So they separate a (I assume) Mother from her two kids-even if it was the same(ish) cabin?0
