i signed up with utilita last month after having my new smart meters fitted i have noticed i am now using more electric and gas with utilita than my previous energy company i am on prepayment and i got to say utilita are not as good as they made out to be but i am in a 12 month contract.. can anyone help me sort this out.. i usually put £24 a week on for gas and electric, but this week i have put on £25 electric and £13 gas both are still near the emergency credit

I have looked at Utilita because they were near the top in one of the energy comparison websites.
What you have to do is read your meter to see how many units (kWh for elec, cubic metres for gas) you are using each day. Then compare that to what you were using before you changed.
Utilita has a fairly high cost per unit with no standing charges. As you've signed up for 12 months I fear you're stuck with it and will have to either find ways of cutting your consumption or find the extra cash to cover your usage. There are lots of good energy saving tips on the boards here.0 -
