Broadband Speeds

Hi, I wonder if somone could give me some advice on broadband speeds as I think I may be missing something.
I currently don't have broadband at home, I am on three so tether my iPad from my phone, I still get unlimited tethering and this works fine, however it doesn't really work for things like Netflix, it's way too slow so I want to get BB.
I have an app on my phone which says the speed of my 3G is between 5 and 7 Mbps. I've been looking at broadband companies in my area and the estimate speeds to be between 2-3.5 Mbps where I live. Would my broadband be even slower than my 3G or am I missing something.
Thank you in advance

It is possible that non fibre bb would be slower than your 3g, I have just upgraded to fibre and prior to this my standard bb was only 1.8mps max - my 3g was around 7mbs.
It totally depends on the distance your house is from the exchange, line length etc - my sister who lives on the same estate as me gets 7mbs from her standard broadband.0 -
Hi, thanks for your reply, I think I live in a particularly bad area for broadband, last time I had it with sky it was around 1.5 meg I think, I guess fibre is the only option if I want to improve from my 3G0

2-3.5Mbps should just about be OK for streaming video, but without much headroom. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
