C2Q 9400 is outdated. Don't bother.
BTW there is no such thing as 10.6Ghz.
E.g. you can have goods transport by 4 cars on 4 lanes motorway all travelling at 70mph. But it is not equal to 1 car travel at 280mph.
consider these.

Advantage = Can easily upgrade if needed.
The disadvantage of these is they don't have DVD drive. But you can get an external DVD drive for £10 at ebay.
Or go to saveonlaptops and search for cube CB-CAi3-665HG.
It is same spec as zoostorm £230 above. And it has DVD drive. But it would be harder to upgrade or fix when compare to zoostorm as the case is smaller.0 -
Party_Animal wrote: »Spec posted above. Thanks to those genuinely trying to help. I'm told it's too expensive, but not where to buy cheaper. This was the best price I could find for a new one. There are lots of reconditioned ones for half that price. My question really was whether it was worth buying Windows 7 or whether I'm soon going to have the same problem I now have with XP, i.e. no back up. I'm not a technophobe so a lot of this stuff goes right over my head. I don't use it for gaming but do use the internet a lot.
Thanks again
We can possibly bring your current machine up to spec if you go back to the thread linked to in post #4. But it appears that you prefer to be a stubborn old person.0 -

If you don't want XP. You can try Ubuntu. It is free.
I suggest you try it before spending £200 on new machine. And don't forget to make a recovery disk before you swiping your machine.0 -

Thanks for that Cisco, It's not that I don't like XP, just that it's no longer supported. I've never heard of Ubuntu but I'll have a look. As you can tell, my knowledge of pcs is minimal, though most think I'm better than a lot of oldies. I've copied all my files and anything of importance to an external hard drive and sync'd my bookmarks etc so what have I got to lose?
Thanks again0 -
If you swipe it and have not got back up, you will be unable to re-install Win XP. But that is not important if you decide to get rid of it.
On the other hand, no one stop you continues using XP. What you need to make sure is you got most up-to-date anti-virus/ Anti malware to protect it.0 -
Cheers Cisco, I've got Symantec running. I also use Malawares, CCleaner and Advanced Systemcare 7, all up to date. I got rid of a lot of stuff from the start menu yesterday using CCleaner. Running much better now.
Thanks again0
