contents insurance would cover it if Dell refuse to repair (don't mention spillage to Dell when they come out )

is there any way of them telling though thats whats happened?

i honestly didnt see any tea go into the laptop just on the screen, i ws quick wiping it off and checked it several times.

he wasnt drinking near it, he was walking past and accidents do happen. in all the yrs ive had laptops this has never happened so i didnt think to tell him not to walk past the sofa with a drink in his hand!

I think Sod's Law applies even more perfectly then.

It's quite conceivable this has got nothing to do with the tea being spilled.

thats what i thought. me and hubby are 99% sure no tea went into the laptop itself. it wasnt a full cup just a bit and it all went on the screen so if any did get in it would only be a lil bit.

didnt mean to snap earlier im just really annoyed with hubby

my sis spilt tea on bottom of her laptop few mths ago n even that worked fine after.

the error msg i 1st got wen it crashed was there was an error with software i had just installed or something alone those lines then when i turned it bk on got aq blue screen to say there was a prob with either hard drive or motherboard.

its in airing cupboard atm to see if i can dry it out, if that is the prob

Well the symptoms you describe certainly give me the feeling that this is a completely independant problem. With it being so new I think you'd be well within your rights (although not 100% sure on that) to demand a replacement rather than a repair.

what do u think it could be?

the green power button comes on and the light next to it that matches symbol on hard drive cover comes on for 2 sec then goes bk off. after about 20 secs even the power button goes off.

when i last had a harddrive failure the pc powered on but took me to a page to say internal hardware failure. this time nothing is happening at all

Could be a problem with the power supply unit or the motherboard is bust somewhere which isn't anything you'd be able to fix yourself anyway.
