Woodburner Temperature

Skulls

Just bought an infrared thermometer from Lidl(£17) and tested the wood burner. The lowest temp in firebox is 220 C going up to out of range (250 I think), my only concern is the flue its showing 85 C on the outside. The top of the fire about 20cm away from flue is showing 120 C. I know the fire is very efficient but can these figures be right?
I had the chimney swept a few weeks ago and got about half a bucket of soot out of it, this was a full years burning and my only source of heating( roughly 1.5 tons of briquettes). The sweep said that whatever I was burning carry on as the soot looked 'good'!

most stoves have a higher remp than that at the flue spigot but if the soots nice and powdery then you must be doing it right. Remember that its the flue gas temp not the stove pipe temp you need to read the only way to get an accurate reading of that is to have a probe in the gas stream.0

Can all volatile gases be burnt at 200-250C, the temp inside firebox? The fire I have is a Burley Hollywell it also has 5 hollow tubes at the top inside the fire which extract heat and I have a heat sync fan on top of fire so maybe I am extracting all the heat possible before it goes up the chimney!0
