Dog attack, vets bills

I paid out £450 for my cat's dentistry. When I told my neighbour he said how much would a new cat cost.
This is why I asked my question. In terms of a SOGA at least pets are treated as no different to buying a washing machine. Therefore surely on this basis a persons liability is either the vets bills or the cost of a new pet, whichever is lower. If you then, as the pet owner choose to get your pet 'repaired' that is your decision but I don't think you could necessarily expect the other party to cover the entire bill, no matter how guilty they were.
Besides which I'd expect the pet owner would be responsible for keeping costs down where possible and £3000 for two broken legs seems hugely excessive to me.0 -
£3000 says to me that the dog has a bone problem as alluded to by some other postersThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

What worries me is that the other dog was off the lead and not under the owners control.
Few weeks ago, I was walking my dog off the lead when a much larger dog ran the length of the playing field (three football pitch lengths) to chase my dog. If this other dog had caused my dog to run onto the road and my dog had got injured I would expect the other dog owner to foot the bill (I do have pet insurance) as they allowed their dog to be out of control in a public place.
It all depends what happened in the incident. The other dog may not have touched the OP's dog but the injuries may have occurred when the Op's dog was trying to get away.0
