Hi guys I was sent a form from the jobcentre to review my benefits which i claim income based jsa. I went to sign on and speak to my advisor today and she helped me with the form.
As she was checking it she said have you claimed dla or pip, i said i had but got denied it. I was told i needed some help but not enough. she said i should reapply for it as she feels i would benefit from it. I no hearing in my right ear and severe loss in my left ear. She said she knows some people get it and they are faking like a backache.
Do you think its worth reapplying for it. I dont know the descriptors for points if thats what is part of this.

DLA doesn't exist (apart from in NI?) for new claimants over 16.

now i use a hearing aid but still struggle at times and need to ask several times for people to repeat what is being said. Strangers are the hardest as im used to their voice. I also cant use the house phone at all. I require a loop system to use my mobile phone but still struggle to hear at times. I have low confidence at times due to communication issues.
Do you think this would fit in any of these. Even with equipment I dont always understand people.Mortgage free wannabe

You need to be able to do the above reliably, repeatedly, and safely - in not more than twice the time it would take a healthy person.
Can you hear in most environments without the aid to the level that it takes you under twice the time (counting asking people to repeat themselves).
If not, you would get at least the 2 point descriptor.
If the aid does not help - to the extent that even with it , you can't do it reliably, ... twice... - then you might get one of the 'needs communication support' descriptors - for example if a friend went along with you and repeated peoples statements in a known voice, and you were able to understand that.
If your hearing is bad enough that even with that support, you can't do 'reliably...' - then the 12 point descriptor might apply.
('safely' in this context might mean not turning your aid up so far as it might damage your remaining hearing).
I would also argue that if one of the above (beyond needing the aid) applies, then 'needs social support' in the engaging with other people descriptor might too.
Don't forget the 1 point descriptor 'managing medication' - if you use a pill dispenser to help you with medication.0 -
Don't make the mistake of thinking the person in the Jobcentre knows what they are talking about. I am not saying they do or don't have knowledge just that its not professional knowledge, do not follow their advice on this. However if looking at the descriptors you think you should reapply then do so, its sensible to get professional help with the forms as I understand it."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

It seems to be much more difficult to qualify for PIP than it was for DLA. Many assessments for DLA were done simply on the basis of the form the claimant completed, and that was obviously open to abuse. With PIP everybody is supposed to have a face to face assessment before a decision is made.0

This is - broadly - a lie, perpetuated by the government.
If DLA was rife with abuse, then the investigations into DLA by sampling random cases and actually interviewing people and going in depth into their claims would result in a large number of fraudulent claims being found.
In actual fact - around half a percent were found to be fraudulent, with about the same number again each in error due to claimant and staff error.
Even if you assume that all of the claimant error is actually fraud (and that claimants therefore have a much better understanding of the system than staff who make a similar amount of errors) - that's still only a percent.
It is absolutely 100% wrong to imply that the reductions of people getting an award for DLA versus PIP are due to fraud being caught better in the new system.
If this was the case, the fraud figure would be around 20%.
The actual reason is that PIP has been _designed_ so that only 80% of DLA claimants legitimately entitled to DLA, some with severe, lifelong disabilities where DLA allows them to work - are able to qualify for PIP.0 -
It's not just a case of filling in a lengthy form. I seem to remember receiving letters saying that DWP had contacted my GP. I know that when I had my tribunal, I was sent a form to sign to give the tribunal permission to contact my consultant to gain more information.
They are in a minority; but I do believe that some people had face to face assessments for DLA?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

hi I am unable to hear anything without a hearing aid at all. I have a dead ear on my right and severe loss on my left. I have to ask people to repeat maybe up to 4 times their information or questions If I cant understand them I ask them to write the info down. I sometimes can make out what they are saying depending on environment and their voice.I am better with a known voice but I still sometimes need to ask several times to repeat it due to background noise.
When I am in work I tend to work when the shop is shut but the morning it is open for 1.5 hours before I finish and if a customer is communicating with me and I cant understand them I pass them onto another staff member to help them. I am up and down with the tannoy system as some of the information I can hear but if anyone needs me they come up to me to inform me of anything or pass it onto my mother who works with me.
I don't take medication for this issue and im fine with medication for other issues. I know I need an adaption to telephones but unsure which one yet as ive never needed it. I use a loop for my mobile phone but struggle with that sometimes. I do lip read at times but do try to listen to the person.Mortgage free wannabe

I would say it's arguable the 12 point ' [FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]e. Cannot express or understand verbal information at all even with communication support.' applies.
Because even with communicaiton support - say a support worker who you know - communication of all sorts is sufficiently hard that it takes over twice the normal time to do so.
