iPhone 6 - Sim Only options

Hi all,

I will shortly be buying an iPhone 6 (128GB) directly from Apple, once my 0% interest CC comes through.

To minimise data usage, I will download all of my music on to the phone rather than listening to it via iCloud when on the move.

I will also try and get into the mindset of using my iPad or work PC for internet usage, rather than wasting phone data allowance.

While I currently use 'Freedom Freebies' on Vodafone, the latest at £20 expiring on 13th October, I am considering moving away from Vodafone.

My questions are: will I be able to recover the £20 credit that I have on my account if I did move away, or would I have to use it before I move?

I have already 'removed' my payment cards from my VF account so it isn't renewed automatically.

I appreciate that it may not be worth the hassle of trying to recover it, and easier to just use Vodafone for another month.

If I do stay with Vodafone, could I transfer across to a 'Sim Only Plan'...

Are Giff-Gaff still the best deal around otherwise, and, is the network coverage good?

Many Thanks,

Steve

I guess you mean downloading via WiFi.

    The latter.

    I don't think so.

There is no anything 'the best' for everyone. All depends on the usage. Popular alternative is 3. Lyca have bundles comparable to Giffgaff.
and, is the network coverage good?
Again, how long is a piece of string? The signal is O2 and all depends on the location.

I bought a sim free iphone 6 direct from Apple and I have a PAYG Sim with Three. I pay £15 a month for a bundle with 300 minutes, Unlimited texts and Unlimited Data.

You first need to assess how much data and how many minutes and texts you need every month. If you have low and/or infrequent usage, Three's 321 Pay As You Go tariff is likely to be the best option. Otherwise a Sim Only plan from Giffgaff or Lyca will probably be the cheapest depending on your usage. For example, Giffgaff has goodybags which provide the same amount of minutes and texts as a £20 Vodafone Freebee, but if you're happy to reduce your data by 1GB, you'd pay £7.50 per month. If you want 1GB more than the Freebee provides, you'd pay £12 per month, which is still a big saving on what you would be paying on Vodafone.

You can transfer to Vodafone Sim Only, but they don't offer value for money compared to other networks. Order a free Pay As You Go sim from the network you are interested in joining and test coverage in your area before switching.

For £15 per month, Lycamobile offers the same but 500 minutes rather than 300. Virgin Mobile offers 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited 3G data for £5 per month as a retention deal, so there are better deals out there.

Three do a sim only contract that gives 2GB data, 200 minutes and unlimited texts for £10 a month.

Other plans available, starting at £7 a month with less data.

    Thanks - food for thought.

The CC has arrived so I now just have to finally convince myself that the iPhone is a good use of my money and I'll be there :)

Is the Lycamobile data truly unlimited?
Surely everyone isn't guaranteed this retention deal from Virgin though?

The main reason I took the three deal is that I don't want a contract, even if it's a 30 day rolling sim, so it suits me just fine.

    Only 3 give unlimited Data
What happens if you push this button?

Contract may not be your thing but vodafone do the iPhone 6 on a 12 month contract if you stump up some towards the phone.

Gives you a 0% apr but if you strip out the phones value from the total 12 month cost it makes the airtime very reasonably priced.
