Long delays on M11 near Stortford after second serious incident in less than 12 hours

THERE are long delays on the M11 near Bishop's Stortford this morning (Thursday) after a collision between three vehicles that left one person trapped.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident, on the northbound stretch between junctions 8 (Bishop's Stortford/Stansted Airport/A120) and 9 (Saffron Walden/A11), at 6.50am.

It sent a crew each from Stansted and Dunmow, as well as two from Thaxted, to the scene.

Firefighters used cutting equipment to remove the roof of one vehicle so that paramedics could treat a person trapped inside.

A woman suffered a minor neck injury and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for further assessment.

Both lanes on the motorway had to be closed while emergency services worked.

The area is now clear, but the Highways Agency reports that delays of around an hour remain.

Last night, at 9.28pm, the fire service was called to the same stretch of motorway after a car left the road and a man inside was trapped.

Fire and rescue crews from Stansted, Newport and Dunmow were sent to the scene. Firefighters had released the casualty by 10.21pm.
