One thing that struck me today was reading various tales about people who found that they had, all unwittingly, bought a house with a Neighbour From Hell next door was its not infrequent for someone to put a house on the market after an NFH episode (even if they have managed to safely put NFH "back in their box").
It may be that some reluctant sales are down to the vendor does like the house/intends to keep it but part of them decided to get away from NFH and that produces conflict in their mind and thence a "vendor who doesn't seem to want to sell their place"???
Personally, my place isn't going to go on the market again and I will just block out that NFH the vendor darn well should have been more candid about, as the house itself is actually now amongst the very best of its type available round here in a "nice location" and wouldn't fetch what I bought it for + what I have spent on it anyway. I've learnt "block out" from your mind tactics to a large extent from a previous bad situation, but I do know many people won't have done so and hence might feel torn and decide to sell on the one hand, but not put much "effort" into it on the other hand. I was told that the vendor I bought this house from didn't want to sell it at one level, but I presume the other level was to get away from NFH.
NO chance that someone will get a bargain just because there is an NFH next door in my case - but I can understand some people might put their house on the market whilst hoping against hope that NFH might "go off the scene" one way and another and all can go according to plan. It leads to checking for hopeful signs that NFH has gone at regular intervals, but well....small price to pay....0
