Vendors who don't seem to want to sell their places!

Probably someone who thought they were raising the saleability of a place that wasn't shifting. After all, people really exist, who think that sticking fake stones to the outside of a property, or painting it bright green, improves its looks.0

So the vendors away and the sister cant make the weekend and you say they are being problematic. Don't you think it's you who are too demanding, why did you not arrange it when the sister was there the rest of the week.0

Can I share why I wanted to do viewings of the house I was selling, and not leave it to EA?
The house is 110 years old, had only 3 families in during that time, all personally known to us.
I felt I was handing over something special, and wanted to convey that. I had 3 photos that I put out - 1 of each family, to show buyers. I do think it put me in the "slightly mad" category, but it made me feel better!
It's a very laudable aim but, at the same time, it's not going to help you sell the house for the most money in the shortest time...0 -

I don't follow that. Jackyann was creating a selling point, albeit one that would appeal to only some people, but there's no reason why it would put anyone off, or that access was denied/restricted.
In the sector I was last interested-in, owner-led viewings are the norm. The most dangerous thing about them is that people often say too much and reveal something an agent wouldn't.0 -

Which cost the lady who owned my first house £5000 when she said she had found her ideal new home as was desperate to sell. Oh and she had been on the market for 10 months with just two viewings.
An EA won't tell you how long a property has been on the market and you really have to be persistent to get that out of them. Now though Zoopla gives you that information0 -

I know!!
Actually, it wasn't that I was turning down "unsuitable" people, more that I just wanted them to "know" the history. If they forgot it 5 minutes later, or went off muttering about me & my photos, I don't know - just felt I'd done my "bit".
Actually, we were effectively "interviewed" for the plot of land we were buying - but then the vendors were selling a bit of their garden and wanted an idea about their new neighbours!
Happy endings all round - we love where we live and get on well with the neighbours, and when I drive by the old house, and see it lived in and loved by a new family, I feel good!0 -
The last ones that insisted on being present, were the ones that were hiding something. We drove past 30 minutes before the appointment and windows and doors were all full open in the midst of winter/rain - can you guess what they were hiding?!
Okay sorry for being daft!
What were they hiding?0 -
14 years ago we had sold and viewed a house.
Owners were having a bungalow built in Yorkshire which was near completion
Firstly the owners were only allowing families with 'well behaved' children to view..
secondly there was a pet cemetery in the back garden that was going to be dug up when the owners left.
We liked the house and our offer was accepted..
Then our surveyor was made to sit outside as he was 5 mins early..
Then the owner turned up at our home to 'discuss the sale' and suggested we cut out the Estate Agent ?
NO
Then 1 week before completion the owner decided prices had risen and he wanted a further 10k ..!
We pulled out ..
This house is STILL being marketed by various Estate Agents on a yearly basis . One family actually ended up living in a caravan after selling their property while waiting for this idiot to complete.0 -
