My wife car-shared at her previous job and loved it, and has just started sharing at her new job, as of today. Apparently it went well. She enjoys the company (it's 40 miles each way, so can take a while), plus half the petrol costs and half the mileage on the car is very welcome.

Something you should bare in mind when liftsharing is, if you're getting any money from it your insurance could use it as get-out if there was ever an accident. So ask before you start.

Personal Motor policies normally do say lift sharing and reimbursement at cost is acceptable. It is only if you are making a profit that you then move into hire and reward and thus out of personal lines motor

I shared my car with two others for about a year and didn't like it too much. I missed having my own quiet time, just a brief moment of the day where I can spend a little time with just my own thoughts.

I valued that more than the financial benefits so I ceased it.

    +1

If I wanted to be bothered by other people, I could sit on a 'bus. :D

I can't even bear the intrusion of a DJ on the wireless, with their innane chatter, so I listen to mp3s all the time.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Hell no, I tried it for a week and hated every second of it.

By the end of day 2 I was visualising wrapping a tyre iron around his head and how to dispose of his body.

    I do.
If you do carpool anyway, how much have you saved?

On average (varies a bit, according to the number of shifts) about £54 per month.

Used to car pool with the Mrs, if that counts?

    I car share with mine.

It works ok as we work at the same place. The down side is that we each work irregular hours so it can mean some very early mornings combined with some late nights.

If we car share we get to park at work in the underground car park. I am off to pick my buddy up in a couple of mins.
  • I rarely finish at my scheduled time, so carpooling would be a bit of a disaster.

I guess it works for people that finish on the dot every afternoon.

I share a van most nights of the week.
    Sometimes I drive, sometimes I'm a passenger.

Don't know, and quite honestly don't care.
We have over 50 restaurants to choose from during the course of the week, so long as I get my money for each attendance then it makes no odds to me whatsoever.
