Looking for online where I can be a wiseman/woman selling potions not a warrior

I asked this question first a couple of years back but drew a blank. Thought I would try again now to see if there have been any recent development.

I realise that most online games involve making a quest through a dangerous landscape and killing enemies, muggers and wild animals etc. but I do't want to wander round killing things.

Instead I should like to take part in an online interactive game where Iam a wiseman/woman sitting in a cottage/hut/cave or even a shop, selling my potions to the travellers passing through. Ideally with a garden growing herbs.

Does such a character exist?

Assuming this is serious for a sec.

You can do something similar in WOW, but it would not be quite as you describe.

To level you need to do either quests, killing or herb-picking/mining. it will be slow to level without killing but possible, you don't sound like you are in a rush so it may work for you.

I believe you can get a free trial that let you play up to level 20 so it may be worth a look.

Blizzard's recently cancelled MMORPG Titan was apparently going to offer such a system with the belief that not everyone wanted to go out into combat and instead could do service and supply roles. I'm not aware of any current MMORPG that works this way though.

The only game that comes to mind is Minecraft as on a large multiplayer server there would be scope to tend to your own house and grow crops while offering resources to other players.

If you herb gather in a level appropriate zone (or a zonedesigned for characters lower than your level) you are unlikely to be attacked. In the starting zone most animals will not attack you unless you attack themfirst. However – like most animals in the wild – if you go very close to themand annoy them they are likely to attack you. You can of course run away, theywill eventually get bored chasing you.

You also want to go on a PvE server rather than a PvP serverotherwise other players can (and will) attack you. In fact a RP PvE server wouldbe best for you – for obvious reasons!

Well if you read or watch any scifi or medieval sword and sorcery stuff there is always a shop keeper or trader or weapons maker etc, even the odd magician or witch, who exists h to give you a spell or potion or secret weapon or even just a tip off. They don't have to fight off the killer classes to exist.

Take the Ferengi just for starters. Or the Diagon Alley shopkeepers in Harry Potter where they sell wands and broomsticks. Some games do have witches but they are usually aggressive. I want to be a wise man or woman supplying power and information to the combatants without having to fight anyone myself (too tiring would rather be making spells.)

Sounds like a cop-out to me. If you wish to be involved in a game whose essential nature is violence and mayhem then you cannot validly sit in a rocking chair, knitting. Sneaky pacifism is surely not a valid lifestyle choice, in this circumstance. :)
  • Well that's a very specific request! Have you thought about trying something like Minecraft ?
