Friend wrote off his car with my belongings in it.

Hi guys,
Long story short, and the title says it all really.
My friend was driving his car and somehow managed to crash it and write it off. Luckily he is ok, knocked around a bit but alright.
Anyway, he had borrowed my gun (a PCP carbine, probably worth more than the car) and it was in the car when he crashed.
The gun is a write off too. It's worth £600+. My question is, would it be covered under ha car insurance? I guess it makes a difference if he is fully comp/3rd party and who the insurance is with?
Thanks in advance.
Luke.

If you have home contents insurance, you might be able to claim via that if it covers certain things away from the home.[STRIKE]Original Mortgage 07/07 £160000 LTV 100% [/STRIKE]Remortgaged 10/13 £118000 LTV 84%

It might even be covered under their home insurance as it was in their custody and control, and they have cover away from home.
If you claim on your home insurance you will have an excess to pay and as soon as you phone them you will have a claim registered which you will have to declare for 3 to 5 years. I would get him to check his insurance before you phone yours.0 -
Are you allowed to lend guns to a third party?
Won't you get into some bother yourself for this?0 -
Rs65 - thanks for the info! I'll get him to contact his insurance company tomorrow.
JonesMUFCforever - good point, and worth addressing. We are both license holders and have our firearms certs... This alone however does not allow you to borrow others firearms. You have to inform the police when you have different guns in your safe/possession. However, this rifle is not regulated (though I believe they should be, but that's a different matter). It is not of a high enough power to require registration, you can buy one from any gun dealer with nothing but a passport or driving range license to show you are over 18.
The gun is a falcon prairie bull barrel, 8 shot magazine with walnut profile stock for anyone interested in such things.0 -
Do you have to carry guns in cars in any special way and if so, was that adhered to?
I sort of imagine a long metal box or something. I was wondering how it could be written off.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
