GUMTREE question

Hi, I wonder if anybody knows whether I can check in Gumtree that prospective buyers are receiving my emails in answer to their queries?

I am advertising a vacuum cleaner and over a period of about two weeks 3 people have contacted me, asking essentially the same questions: Is this still available; is it in good working order and do you have all the attachments?

I am able to answer 'yes' to all these questions, yet none of the 3 people have got back to me again. My emails have been friendly, offering any further information they might want.

I just think it's strange that even though I've given positive responses to their questions I haven't heard from them again, so I'm left thinking maybe my emails are not being delivered.

Your mails get forwarded via Gumtree, and some e-mail programs / providers will happily throw them in a Spam or Junk folders.

Combine that with the probability that some folks will mail a number of sellers, and perhaps pick only the nearest one that replies ....

Yes, perhaps. I checked my junk folder, nothing there, and I've checked the ads and nothing similar anywhere near me so I don't know what's going on. Hey ho, I suppose I'll find a new home for it eventually.

Googler was referring to the buyers junk / spam folders

I find Gumtree attracts it's fair share of time wasters. I am lucky if I get a response back in a bout 80% of emails from buyers

I have one item showing that I have had 3 email questions , non have arrived at my gmail address , non in spam either

neither can I. just help topics , saying to check your spam, however the email achnologing (sp)your listing sales are received

Basically what happens a lot on gumtree is as follows.

You place an ad
Buyer replies to ad through gumtree, this email arrives in your inbox no problem

you hit "reply" to that email, it gets sent but that reply ends up in the buyers spam/junk mail, hence a lot of time they dont see it..

I know this as i experimented with my own ads and a number of email addressess, all replies i sent to quesions went to spam folders.

U know include a line about checking spam/junk mail folders for replies in my ads.

I've never had this problem.
A typical gumtree response is I want it urgently- what's the least you'll take - when can I collect- what's your address.or can you deliver( huge cheap item)
I ignore these and ask them to send me their mobile- never here again after that

I have the same problem, not just with Gumtree but Freecycle too. I often offer items there but when I reply to a request for stuff, I regularly never hear back. Initially I though it was time wasters but Yahoo definitely has a habit of dumping emails into spam folders and lots of people use Yahoo Mail so that is a contributing factor.
I always check junk and spam folders for replies to my emails but not everyone else does.

however as posted above , one of my items shows that 3 emails have been sent to me ,I use gmail , and no emails have been received in either my main folder or the spam one.


although the site states 3 emails sent , I cannot see a way of reading them
