DD2 is all booked to fly to NZ she goes at the beginning of August. Trying to sort out the last few loose ends.
This time next week should be up north at the house, got a few jobs to sort out.
Dogs have finally learnt that swimming is fun. Its only taken the oldest 2 years to pluck up courage to do it. The youngster just copied her and dived in at 10 months.

I hope your DD has great fun in NZ ... travel is such a great educator..
I sold at the boot sale again today [dolly fund] and took 120 so not bad. got there for 7am and it was 21 degrees !! I stupidly parked facing the sun which left me like a numbskull by 10am ! I felt so ill I walked off to a corner that had shade AND a breeze with a bottle of by now warm water .....
ive hopefully recouped £200 I lent someone months ago [with no sign of repayment ! ] I just went head on and said I NEED IT
so hopefully I have the maximum £s quoted ready for Wednesday [D day] poor gal, I just hope the tumours are benign....0 -

Oh Alfie, I haven't had a chance to catch up on the thread. I'm so sorry to hear poor Dolly isn't well. I hope Wednesday goes well and you get good news. Thinking of you0 -
My fingers are crossed for Dolly too. What a good 'parent' you are , going out to rustle-up the vet's bill at those boot sales! :T:A
Not a lot to report. The dog barking situation has improved a lot here, with HW2 going to classes with the new one and Mr Bandana not being about so much.....apparently the dogs don't like him; hence their continual kicking-off while he was shed-building. To be fair to the dogs, he bears more than a passing resemblance to Lurch from the Addams Family! :rotfl:
Showing my age now!
We have the prospect of an almost sunless day today and the promise of lower temperatures next week, but still no significant rain. We've struggled with the nursery side of things, but I really feel for those much more heavily committed than we are. A local nursery was obviously losing stock when we visited it weeks ago, so I expect they've fared much worse since then.
OTOH, sales are way up for us this year, as more people find us and come back again.0 -
morning all
cooler plus cool breeze here today so fingers crossed !
I got told last night that esse cooker coming Thursday so could I "make space"
so I was unscrewing a thousand screws to get the shelves and 3 cupboards out till 1am.. my word this kitchen was built to last !
next door gardeners [yes gardeners] came at 8am this morning and hoiked the double wall oven out for me ... so now the housing and cupboards can be taken out after finding more hidden screws !
cooker will go in then I can make good the wall behind and get one long pan shelf up... but will need some decent pans if on show !!!!
when does life get easier ??
re the plants dave.... I always buy from "home produced", I find they are healthier and more "cared for" than some nurseries . also I like to put pennies in the coffers of people that actually love their hobby0 -
:(:(
my poor darling dolly daydream looks like a doggy Frankenstein !
she has stitches from her chest to her groin and a drain tube..
took them a bit longer than they thought but she was as good as gold apparently ,,
she heard me talking to the nurse and started whimpering so I sat with her then we got her in my car and she has slept solid since she got home . she did have some food so her appetite hasn't been affected !
well at least that's over with for now.. check up in 2 days then stitches out 10-14 days time.
strange how the other dogs sniffed her then gave her her space:A they seem to know...
cooler here today , just 25 degrees and a tiny breeze.
ruby my mare is still a bit lame but nobody seems to know why ? vet had a quick look when here for their jabs and farrier cant find a problem ... doesn't seem to bother her and its not got any worse just a bit of a mystery ....
cant afford another vet bill !!!
well if your watching the "game" ... hope we win0 -
Glad it went OK for Dolly and you, alfie.
Now do you you have to wait for biopsy result? Your animogs must cost you a fortune!
Had a couple of quiet, less sunny days here, which is kinder to the plants in pots. By next year we'll have built a proper shade area, so that will probably mean no summer like this one!
Van MoT day today; always a worry, but at least the garage's loan car has given me hope.....never driven anything quite so cronky in years, to say nothing of the dust and spiders' webs inside! :rotfl:
Where's choille????0 -
The van lives!
Couple of ball joints and a new mirror to replace the one I 'mislaid' on a Crediton lamp post. Not bad!
Maybe the magic juice a friend recommended I pour into the tank helped with the new emissions test.....:cool:0 -
That's good news Dave, DD2 had to have something done to her exhaust to get it through the test. Not long till she goes now. Off oop north tomorrow early start but we'll get there in nice time. Spent most of the day getting tar spots off the car. OH had some marvellous stuff that smelt very citrusy/

It's incredibly dry here, with no rain at all for over six weeks! There have been some local fires, one from a flail presumably hitting a flint, and I'm wary of using petrol equipment, especially when putting it down again!
Now, I'm really glad we are beside the river, and I flooded part of the water meadow. I would have done more of it, but the river level is far too low for that. The water meadow is still green and lush, and we are understocked anyway, so the beasts are fine. Not so for many neighbours, and many horses nearby just stand on dustbaths.
We aren't even up for these random thunderstorms. I keep thinking of sorting out some powered irrigation, ideally solar but, sadly haven't got round to it. Maybe the year after next... Or the following one...
We have a quiet couple of weeks, so can do our real jobs for a bit. Then, we have the last three shows in the county to get done. There is serious talk they'll be cancelled because of fire risk, which would hit their coffers hard. One was on the point of not returning, having been hit by torrential rain three years running. Oh, I wish...
I'm looking at what animals to get next. Old Irish goats appeal - I used to play amongst feral Irish goats when I was an equally feral child, and then there are the large long-haired sheep, good for wool, and very companionable.
This year's lambs are either staying, or being sold onto other breeders, so we haven't had to cull anything, which is good. While we have spare grazing, they might as well loiter around; there's no way a small farm like this can expect to make a profit, and lamb sells for peanuts. I'd be grateful if they don't bankrupt us, but I don't expect to retire early on the profits. In fact, I don't think I can retire now, this will just turn into work in the end. Nice work if you can get it.
Dog just loves the summer, its the best thing EVER! (again...). He just floats on springs above the long grass, runs across a ten acre field in seconds, chases rabbits and birds, but kills nothing. Two of last year's lambs love him(!), and play stomp the foot, jump, nuzzle, jump endlessly. That, too, is the best thing ever... as is chasing the tractor, walkies with our lovely neighbour (I know where to look if he's been stolen!), and as for hosepipes, they are THE BEST THING EVER!!!!!
Went to sleep last night with a tawny owl sitting on the windowcill, a young one, waiting for mum to finish the hunt. Well, I say sleep, he had other ideas. Blood curdling screeches, but so fluffy and cute... unless you are a vole. This morning, at 4, Chief Rook started the dawn chorus as usual, so a short night.
We have otters back on the river, we have breeding swallowtail butterflies, lots of hummingbird hawkmoth, and a couple of releases by the wildlife trusts are looking promising. The water vole population has rocketed, dragonflies mob us down by the river (OH hates them :rotfl:) and the sky is rich with birds of prey. The heat is great for all the lazy four-foots to snooze in the sun, but it does make it hot for doing the necessary work. Ragwort has gone rife in one field, so that's the weekend sorted.
Hope all are well, and animals recover from ilth! If you have spare rain, push it this way, before I plant cactus, or the tumbleweed takes over.0
