    28 degrees here too Alfie.

There are wild fires on Skye & I do worry about all the folks camping lighting fires here - it's so dry the place would be up like paper.

Cut the grass too and feel quite washed out with the heat. Been for a long walk with Collie Wollie & what a beautiful evening but have to put a stride on as the midgies are out. Fabulous moon up but it is hardly getting dark now at all at all.

hope mrs dave feels better after a rest.. hows the new neighbours ?
Mrs Dave managed 2.5 miles yesterday, so no rest, but we did walks early and late, not in the heat. Don't know what the temps were here, but hot, especially as we were digging out a bank! :(

On the way home last night, I managed to grab a photo of a 'natural' meadow we can see from our place. The combination of low sun and cheapie camera pointed at it, produced quite an arty photo.

The new neighbour......um..... she's OK, but her two yappy dogs are a pain, because they bark at every vehicle passing down the lane and for some time after. It's not awful, but I'm surprised that an apparently 'educated' person would allow that when starting in a new community, especially when her attached neighbour's property is for sale. Every viewer is likely to get the same greeting!

She has a relative visiting daily, putting up a shed, and they seem much worse when he's around, so we'll just have to see. He seems odd, having now taken at least 3 weeks to erect an 8x6 shed....and it's still not finished! :rotfl:

Anyway, bottom line: she's a musician, likes her garden and sitting in her conservatory 25' from our barn and polytunnel. At present I'm just being my normal self, so no brush cutter, chain saw etc on Sundays, or early/ late. She has to experience plenty of 'normal' first, in order to appreciate that a combination of AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Who and power tools can blow it all away in an instant, as soon as the dogs kick off!

Compared with Mr Dog, this one will be easy....;)

Dave - Lovely photo. Glad DW is getting out and about when not being made to slave on the land!

Neighbours eh? Collie Wollie can bark but it's usually because someone has parked at the top in out layby & he's being a good guard dog - however the power tools set him off something chronic. Our elderly neighbour said that she could hear him the other day when we were trying to move the sheep. But she does like to find fault. I do try to be mindful of him doing it.

Alfie that's funny with the cat - they are cute and know when they've found a soft spot/soft touch! The animal feed is quite a thing although I'm hardly giving the sheep much now - I will get them garlic licks to help with the insects.

Off to the post and hopefully a beach walk with collie wollie.

I do call him by his Sunday name most days but refer to him by all sorts of other ones some of them quite rude if he's been a naughty lad.

What a glorious evening been up into the hamlet & watched the hinds on the hill. Collie wobble would be off after them given half a chance - he could sniff them in the air even though they are way up on the ridge.

There's a breeze picking up - thankfully... as it's been so humid.

    morning peeps..

im panicking ! I rang where ive booked accommodation [like a big static caravan] on a site just to check it was 2 bedrooms and guy said yes BUT seems to be an anomaly with the booking and will ring me back .... on asking he said the "format" for the booking was different ?
also my dog/house sitter now cant do the Friday or Monday :eek:
son is in Africa so hes out,
have to find a sitter like ...yesterday !!

also I have a young tawny owl in my spare room.... left it for parents to feed but after 24hrs of wet and cold had to bring it in before it snuffed it or got eaten !! its perked up now after some food [chopping up dead chicks and mice is not high on my wish list but hey ho ;) ] neighbours cats are forever gifting them dead mice but are now pleased they are being recycled :D

why, after a reasonably quiet period does it ALL happen when all I want is a weekend away :(

Afie - You are a great animal lover & I do hope you get someone to come whilst you have a much needed break.

Hot as hell here & off over east for feed & cooler climes.
  • Much mooching and sighing about being done here - it's either too hot and sunny, too hot and dull/dank (as it is now) or inundated with biblical storms.

Himself has disappeared off on another spend-ages-away-just-to-play-a-few-songs-for-45-minutes beano and I'm spending my week off largely on the sofa, as the weedpatch is 3-4 foot high and there's not a lot I can do about it armed with only a pair of kitchen scissors. The various fuzzy and stripey insects seem to be enjoying things, though, and I'm rather impressed with the Field Buttercups that have appeared from nowhere - I only remember Buttercups as a child being marginally taller than the Daisies, but I suppose that was in part because most fields had horses in them and anything yellow would have been hacked away/sprayed pretty sharpish.

Not particularly impressed with this disappearance, as I was supposed to be going along until the last minute when somebody making the travel arrangements/buying the tickets decided that it wouldn't be a problem if they stayed an extra night and don't come back until 9 hours after I return to work on Monday. Yeah, because nobody ever has to work for a living, do they?

The pretty plants out the front have all keeled over in the heat and died, leaving me with the honeysuckle around the door (which is handy in keeping the local kids away because they're scared of bees), some assorted weeds and lots of lavender shortly to flower. Oh, and a reasonable scattering of Rosemary Beetle amongst them :(.

It's incredibly dark and overbearing right now and the birds, who have been yelling their little heads off all day have just fallen silent - I'm hoping that we don't just get skimmed by some rain, as there's not much point in having the humidity, thunder and lightning without the wet stuff.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

ok...so apparently booking company should NOT have taken a booking for that week as park is shut for 2 weeks !!
so on enquiring WHEN they were going to tell me this and me only finding out cos I rang them . was met with apologies and refer to manager ....
I put on my official ex cop tone and asked them to sort it pronto...they came back with a 3 bedroom cottage, 2 bathrooms, lounge ,kitchen, diner, utility AND a spa tub thingy and they would pay the [big] difference so I accepted ;):D
from caravan to des res in one big swoop...:rotfl: jammy or what ...:rotfl:

just got to sort dog sitter now ....

TEDDY the tawny is thriving ...so far , fingers crossed he/she will survive [always tricky emulating their diet ! ]

thick fog last night and tonight here, slight drizzle rain this morning but sunny this afternoon..

sons trip may be off  because he has had this white cell/immunity thing going on, he may not be able to cope IF he was to catch anything out there .. or he may react to the jabs necessary etc... got to get doctors clearance tomorrow..

well ive a busy day tomorrow and have to remember what so have a long list in front of me that id like to throw but there it is and all needs to be done....

p.s. my garden hedgehog came past tonight so put some cat food out for him/her...
oh AND ive volunteered to be a home checker for a French bull dog rescue...[ I will only check in the new forest ]
can someone take my batteries out please !

The heat is knee bending. Went down to the shore this morning and collie bobble just stood up to his chest in the water watching the little eels in the Loch - a fish ( little mackerel I think) jumped up in front of him - he didn't half get a start. The birds on the shore opposite were making an incredible noise slapping into the water & taking the catch to the cliffs opposite - I think feeding their young. What a din.

Alfie is CTC about at all?

Hope you get the dog sitting organised. If I was nearer I would do it in a flash & the owl sitting - any animal sitting.

The heat here is wobble making - just managed to do some necessary animal stuff & watering & that's about it.

Interesting article on CH 4 news regarding Skye & the influx & detriment of all the tourists. - wild fires, homelessness etc.

The roads here are a racetrack & the rubbish is a real issue. Bags and bags being dumped out of camper vans etc. Rant over.
