So fingers crossed next year we will have some gate sales.
With you, people are on foot, not doing 50mph, so there's no problem getting them to stop, but they can only carry so much, so produce needs to be light enough. You do have more people living nearby than we do though.
Sold some miscanthus about 4' tall this morning. No one would walk off with that under their arm!:rotfl:0 -
Got some festival work coming up and should be visiting the future MIL straight after for as long as we can get somebody to chuck food at the cats.
Himself says the first week has to be holiday, but if I must, he'll accept casual jobhunting by the end of week 2.
I will often see a plant and not buy it because I haven't got an instant space for it, but after thinking about it, will realise it can go over [there] and will return. I think a lot of people are like that, especially when they have a small garden.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Didn't sell anything after 2pm. Perhaps people think they need a treat after Morning Service!:rotfl:
DD2 reports that her new ferrets, Alfie and Eddy, are settling-in well, litter-trained and now free from fleas. I swear I had nothing whatever to do with the names! :A
Meanwhile, chatting with Pete, who brought up a load of last year's logs that he still owed us, I suddenly realised he'd been working for someone I've occasionally chatted-to on MSE.
It's a small world! :cool:0 -
Evening all, hope you've all had a good weekend.
I've had my sister and 6yr old nephew down for 10days so hectic doesn't even start to describe it! The upside was we did a lot of driving around and visiting tourist attractions including DairylandSeeing all the animals just reinforced how much we want our own chickens/ducks/pigs/cows/goats, I could have happily taken them home right there and then!
We went to a local farm shop which started from humble beginnings and now hjas a huuuge self-pick operation, massive farm shop/butchery and they have added a fancy restaurant too where they cook everything with their own grown produce. They had 8 large sows which had just farrowed so nearly 100 beautiful little week-old piglets running around their pens, heart melting stuff! Couldn't help thinking how good they would taste though...0 -

Well I think I've killed the banana trees that I split off from the main plant apart from the weeny ones that still look green for now!
Lymes is rife here. The bullseye rash is quite common and can just be a normal allergy reaction.
It is very difficult to diagnose - many people I know that it wasn't for a long time. But if you go to the Drs you will probably be given a double dose of anti-biotics. Best to be safe than sorry - but I've had gut problems since then which I think are probably connected.
Best to smother the tick in perfume or lavender oil or some such before removing - it then retreats it's mandibles a little & is easier to remove. Use a antiseptic wipe on the area - just sensible stuff for any bite.
Been down Gruinard Beach again & tide low so you get the three marvellous sandy beaches connected - a good walk & loads of other dogs for pup to rampage with - apart from a very snotty woman from Edinburgh ( by the sound of her ) who just had to drag her poor dog back to the car as she didn't want it mixing with a pup pup. I had to put him on the lead - annoying as they were both getting on nicely.
Raining now & the little chicks have got out for a little forage around. I will keep an eye out as there are some large crows about.
Chap came about the road - hopefully that will happen if a big Estate needs the smaller machinery that way it will be worth while it being brought over this direction. Saves on the costs a little/lot.0 -
Meant to ask again: Dave you did kindly work out what plnt I was on about before but I cannot find the post.
I have a bamboo type shrub - the stems resemble bamboo, but the flowers are really lovely - pink & white & dangle down. It's in flower now & they will last a while & then shiny black seeds appear. Can you work out what it is?
Sorry - I am scatty.0 -
Well, I've now had a training session in how to use a Brushcutter.
Went to a different charity's workday - as soon as I got on site, I was asked my shoe size and provided with proper work boots, hard hat, ear defenders, full visor, anti vibration gloves - and told 'you'll be needing this before you start, too', chucking me a brand new bottle of factor 30 sunblock, informed about the cases they've had of Lyme onsite this year, so all bites have to be checked out in case they need to remove and keep the assailant for analysis, told to take as many breaks as I wanted - and informed me that after I completed the training, I'd have my own book to double up on their records of exactly how many minutes on each item of equipment I'd completed. I didn't just get trained in how to operate the thing, I had a full explanation of the safety checks, the labels, the different blades and where to be in relation to other people or another operator. And they stayed clearing the debris so I was never left alone or had to deal with everything myself.
Compared to last week's group, I'm a lot more impressed with this organisation. I certainly felt safer compared to amongst the laurel hackers. And they said that if I decide to continue, they'll happily find out who to contact/recommend in Devon/Cornwall if I'm looking to get a proper paid job. Whilst handing me an expenses form to claim my bus fare and lunch costs back.
If I go out with the other group tomorrow, it'll be more pulling Ragwort in the rain. Or I could go with this lot on Friday/Sunday/Tuesday, whatever I want.
Hmmm. I'll see how I feel later. Or whether it rains tonight.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Choille, you have me stumped for the moment, but I've just returned from a day piloting the big van up & down the M5 and around Bristol, so I'm a bit jiggered. Nandina domestica?
Edit:
Berries are red though! Flowers not pink & white....nah, can't be that!
Edit 2 : Dierama pulcherrimum?
Help!:eek:0 -
If I could work out how to upload photos I will - hang on. I may unearth the old blog & do it that way........................
Yes, sorry you've had the ferret move, or ferret house move - goodness - you will be bushed.0
