Horse Woman died peacefully on Tuesday pm. :(

Her place is almost ready for sale now, so it will be a blessed release for her one son who has done most of the work and visiting from 4 hours drive away. :A

So we'll be getting new neighbours before the summer's out, although it's just a field and stable next door. Better fir security down by our barn though. We could have had a platoon of storm troopers setting off grenades down there at night and HW would never have heard them! :rotfl:

Found a badger in the wood shed this morning. It obviously wasn't well and lumbered off to the field, where it's just lying down. I suspect paracetamol poisoning, and as I haven't seen the neighbour farmer about much, it's a bit of a mystery as to who. May not be that, of course.

I know badgers live not far away, but I say nowt. No one needs special skills to kill them. An 80something, staunch church woman, told DW matter-of-factly how she had used paracetamol-laced meat to eradicate them from her garden. Not a nice death, internal bleeding.

Sorry for the sad post! :o

Sorry to hear about Horse Woman, Dave. Though I guess it was probably a blessed release.

Hope your new neighbours prove friendly.

How horrid about the badgers - surely there's some more humane way to move them on?

Sad to hear about HW, you were good neighbours to her.

That's horrible about the badger too, especially if it has been deliberately poisoned :(

It wasn't around when I looked later on in the morning, so maybe it perked-up. Poisoning was just a guess. As I said, I don't know who'd do that here. Mr Dog hasn't really got the sort of garden that would excite a badger; it's mainly tarmac.

My nursery plants are mostly in a state, while those in the garden have either been hit by the late frost or are drooping due to drought.:o I've a feeling this isn't going to be an easy gardening year!

Dave I'm sorry to hear about horse woman but as others have said, possibly a blessing. You and your DW certainly couldn't have done more for her.
Also very sorry to hear people treat animals in that way. What a world we live in.

Rain's due to sweep in this morning, so with that in mind, we had a gardening blitz yesterday and shifted 3 dumpy bags of weeds/prunings. :o Not finished, but it's certainly is better for that!

It was good to see DW digging again; her acupuncture sessions seem to be making a difference. Between you and me, if things had gone on as they were, I'd have been looking for other options regarding this smallholding, such as selling off the barn and fields, which have no ag-tie on them. After all, we'd still have an acre. It might still come to that one day, but I hope not just yet .....it's supposed to happen when I'm too crocked! :rotfl:

Yes, sad about Horse Woman, but the main thing from her POV was that she kept going till her beloved horse lived out his natural and long life. We all need some kind of driver to keep us going.;)

    hi all

sorry to hear re horsewoman, dave but as said a blessing [having seen what my dad has to go though]

I abhore any kind of selfish destruction of ANY animal so I wont comment re your poor badger and lets hope he was just suffering from a hangover....
we have a "keeper" near here that shoots/traps anything that moves [unless I get to it first...;) ]

I still have big dog with me, owner out of hospital just waiting for insurance clearance to leave Majorca / fly home ... poor wife has spent last 4-5 weeks in the hospital staying with him.. they have a lovely villa in the hills there but have just got back to it... sounds posh but they have owned it years when no one wanted to live there ....

well mum is doing really well and will be home with me for a while in the next week.. they have to get various appliances delivered to me first tho... and im fetching her sturdy chair from the flat ... she would never get off my sofa !!

I had a "yard sale" yesterday, all the furniture [lot of antiquey stuff] between me and a friend that was stored in the barn,, 2 long loader trailers full  sold £700 worth so not bad..

I am exhausted ! literally exhausted...

but once mums home at least im not doing the equivelant of the the grand prix everyday getting to everyone !!

very high wind here today [not me !] but still no rain :( still watering everything which can be time consuming ...

hope everyone has a good bank holiday , im taking friends 7yr old granddaughter to a small country fair tomorrow , desperately need a day with a difference and think I will get it, she will keep me on my toes :)
then an airport pick up tomorrow eve !!

    have a good day y'all

We've had it too, at last. :jA decent amount overnight as well. Much needed. :)

Looks like it will clear for us, but you'll have more coming, and possibly a thunder storm mixed in.....but, of course, they're often wrong in the detail.

Good to hear Mum will be home with you soon and that life then will be a good bit easier for you.

Why's choille been PPR'd? Hope it's not permanent. This place seems to have stricter policing than it had a while ago.....

P.S. I wondered if the badger had been taken ill from eating our daffodil bulbs, as it had dug some up, but apparently, unlike us, they can eat them without ill effects.

what does PPR mean !! ??

well yesterday turned into another fiasco !!

went to feed jim jam and tilly [hoss's] and tilly didn't do her normal storm trooper show... didn't want her feed..
so went in and noticed blood on inside front leg... looked closer and she had a cut on belly just behind front legs ... panic !!
bearing in mind this is a fighsty mare, she was unervingly morose and slight shaking !!
spoke to LIR [my private veterinary advisor] and rang my vet .. [sunday emergency £'s !! ]
so vets enroute [40 mins] Iv bedded a stable and go to fetch tilly.
by now jim jam knows somethings up and will he let me near her...not a hope...
so im dodging a protective very tall stallion trying to catch her..
had to give up, cancelled vet [almost here ! ] and forked out 120 for an aborted visit !!!
and ........ bu**ar me, the pair of them walked up to me as normal as normal straight after vet had taken my card details ...

tilly is a bit sore but eating now and im keeping an eye on her. jim jam goes Wednesday so im going to bring him in to stable Tuesday then I can get to tilly and do a thorough check...

this morning ive woken up with horrendous sniffles so hope to goodness its not a full blown cold ...

big dogs owner is due back by end of the week, has had to have a doctor arranged to fly out there, and fly back with him !!

I cant believe the amount of medical disasters so far this year !

cancelled going to the show today cos of weather forecast and so far ...not a drop of the wet stuff [albeit with my luck it will chuck down as soon as ive posted this !!]

sorry to be a moaning Minnie ..........
