my mums friend lived alone in a big bungalow and as mum says "she's an odd'n".. after visiting mum in her neat little flat ,friend has decided to up sticks and join her by buying a ground floor flat ! she is 89 and mum was gobsmacked as she is quite a solitary soul... BUT friend says she is frightened on her own now and after a fall, had no one near to help her... at the flats they have a warden, alarm buttons and a friendly group type atmosphere...
maybe [if health/mind is able HW would be better off changing now before its nursing home territory [if not already]0 -

However, can someone who now often can't be bothered to get up, take her pills or make a round of toast even begin to make the mental leaps needed here? I think it's all too late.:(
I remember when I decided Dad had to have more care and supervision than I could provide. In the end, I had to push him to accept a place in the most brilliant care home I'd found, having waited for that crucial vacancy.
Someone really needs to be pushing HW in the same way......but no one's even started to look yet!
There she is, hardly able to walk now, with an acre of land and a 4 bed house on two floors. She's worse than my Dad was physically, and all he had was a small bungalow.
Someone was there when Dad had his heart attack at 07.30 one morning, but the chances are that no one will be when HW has whatever's coming. There will be guilt trips a'plenty, but all too late.
I hope she leaves it all to the old horses' home!0 -
maybe an alarm wrist button might help ? set up with the phone/speaker so she can always hit the button and yell the answers or if they get no answer they call ambulance.... or is it not likely to be pressed !!!0

Son (the only useful one) is now talking of sheltered accommodation or care in his area, rather than here. She has some friends there, but she isn't listening.
(Up in middle of the night because I'm coughing too much to sleep....but I did go to bed at 9pm!
)
Knocked-down the last of the old wooden pig ark things in the garden yesterday. Sadly, I think the tanalised ply they were made from is too far gone to use for much. I should have done it several years ago.
The last of the old milking shed thing stuck to the end of the house is also gone, along with the only reason for it still being there: the old satellite dish. We are finally beginning to look 'normal!' :rotfl:
Oh, and Mr Rod visited and worked out what he will need for the plastering in the living room and this new walk-in wardrobe place. Now all we need is for him and his mate to actually set a date. :j
Electrician is still hiding tho'.....0 -
Hope you manage to get some sleep. Up at silly o clock because I can't sleep. Gorgeous trip up to the Skye hoose, just hope the weather behaves as we've got plans to do things.
Spent last night in a dog friendly hotel, just to break the journey up a bit. Trouble was the dog woofed at every noise so not a very restful night. She's currently sat on the rug in front of me destroying the new toy she got and pulling its fluffy stuffing out. I'll get the hoover out later.
The chaps should be coming up later. They had their masked ball last night and looked great.

I haven't been posting but still reading, not much to report really. The new roof is done and so far, no leaks, but time will tell. The new patio fund has therefore in theory started but so far there is zero in it
I've been slowly tidying the garden ready for winter but it's still been quite mild here for the time of year so still have a lot in flower. Yesterday I was working in the front garden which is south facing and it was really warm when the sun was out.
Today I need to move some foxglove seedlings that are going to crowd out the hellebores. I also want to move some of my massive patch of Japanese anemones. I'm really lucky that they seem to love this garden so I can literally pull one up and plonk it somewhere else and they grow! Other than that it's house cleaning again ready for the week ahead.
Life very much feels like ground hog day at the minute. Work is incredibly busy and stressful. We have a fabulous holiday to look forward to and the end of January to celebrate my biggish birthday which is in December, so that's keeping me going. Happy Sunday everyone0 -
Lovely day again today - all orangey.
Sorry to hear that HW is getting all the help she needs, but possibly doesn't want.
Lucielle - The weather has been great up here, so I hope it continues for you. Have a lovely time when you are up.
Fay sounds like you are going somewhere nice at the start of next year how lovely. Where is are you off to if that isn't too nosy?
Good luck with ebay - seems to have a picked up a little sales wise recently.
Must finish painting the course of blockwork that shows above the foundations while it's still decent weather. Bought pale yellow paint & had to go over it with grey as it looked too stark & bright. Came really yesterday as the sun went down, so stoves on then.0 -
Choille we are off to Jamaica on a real luxury holiday courtesy of a tax refund. I'm taking my parents with us to celebrate my birthday too. Not a very mse way to spend my wind fall, but I paid it out once and I figured it was money I never had and would never have had. And you only turn a certain age once!
Over half way through my house jobs now so the garden is beckoning! Glad to hear you are cracking in with jobs. How are things overall? Do you know what % you have done and what's left?0 -
It's difficult to say % wise as we have no upstairs as such, but the structure is there.
It's the finishings that seem to take forever, but getting there. Outside stuff has come to a stop as the guy with the digger has family stuff going on - that was supposed to be done before putting down flooring, but we are just getting on with that as it needs doing.
The outside garden stuff isn't happening at all. It's a disaster in the garden.
Glad that you are going on a lovely holiday - you do right.0
