    There's always something...

Watchman receiver is clicking. So now I need to work out what's wrong with it and try to fix it. :( Think it might have to wait for a bit. I may dip the tank just to check that it is still over half full as per the last signal. Not that I really ever believe it!
I believe Watchman (men) are prone to all sorts of faults, assuming they've been calibrated correctly to start with.

Mine hasn't, so I just use my trusty 'bit of stick.':D

I think it has been calibrated correctly (unlike the previous one), but I still tend not to believe it. The old tank wasn't bunded so I could just check the condensation on the outside. This one is, so the insulation prevents that solution. 'Bit of stick' seems to be the most reliable technology...

Anyway, as I work in IT (albeit in the theory not the practice) I'm following the tried and tested solution of switching it off and ignoring it for a bit. I may switch it on later. If that doesn't work I'll try shouting at it, then 'percussive maintenance'.

We may well have had a power surge...

The clicking noise is very irritating.

And the aga people, who were supposed to be here between 7.45am and 8am aren't here and aren't answering their phone... so I suspect they've forgotten.

ETA - yes, we've had a power surge. Went upstairs and the radio in the spare room was on very quietly - it turns itself on when there's a power surge, but sadly doesn't tell me what time it happened!

Watchman receiver has recovered. Apparently it can take time for them to get over a power surge. I think I need to put surge protection on nearly everything...

My back seems to have given up - all this catching sheep = wriggly ones. It is sore on the old bones.

Given the place a bit of a de dirt - swept everywhere & hid loads of clutter in cupboards as BIL is coming to look after animogs (as Alfie calls them) while we go swanning off. Hope the weather picks up as it's rubbish here, but seemed to come brighter this evening.
My hydrangas are flowering so picked a big vase of them this evening - lovely blue colour & popped in some Budliahs. Must get some other things sorted tomorrow - today seems to have been unending.

For me, today was one of those rare ones where it all comes together. :D

It began when a friend gave me 4-500 newly collected angelica seeds. Quite what I'd want with all those I'm not sure, especially as I already have two forms of angelica and a third just germinating, but the thought was there....

Incidentally, I have no idea what one of my angelicas is, but the parent was at least 9' or 10' tall and....yes, some of the seeds fell into my pocket. Any ideas? I can hardly go back and ask! :o

At lunchtime I finally won a pre-EU regs, 2 speed Henry Hoover on the Bay for £10 less than my max. These things are getting as rare as chicken's teeth now that Numatic are only allowed to make emasculated eco versions. Good little device for cleaning up the workshop etc. However, what was really good was the fact that Henry is where I have to go tomorrow, so no extra transport cost. :D

Then I had a message from one of the roofing tile customers - could he have all the rest? So that was the tiles sorted. :j

Finally, tonight, DW and I drove the van to a town 50 minutes from here, where a nice couple with fun jobs, but not much money, took all the remaining old loft insulation from us. That was 8 dumpy bags! Altogether, we had 14 dumpy bags of the stuff in the barn, so the amount of space getting rid of it all has created is just wonderful.

Of course there was concreting too :undecided and DW finished the third coat of Weathershield on the main frontage of the bungalow, which gave us a boost. Looks almost posh now! :A

Only one fly in today's ointment; my tracked parcel of wiper blades didn't arrive. I know where they are, probably, but it's a 5 minute walk to a neighbour's wood shed. The idiot parcel postman will have taken a photo of the woodshed too. He's done it all before.....:rotfl:

Ah..."something nasty in the woodshed", I suspect. Postie not called "Seth", perchance?

I always thought there was something "Cold Comfort" about your part of the world...

Nice when things come together. The bonfire I lit on sunday stated alight right through to this morning, and has gobbled up all the dried bracken, weeds and dead trees from one of the big fields. This morning I even went up sans matches and paper. Such small things can be so satisfying.

I am jealous of the bungalow bit from a DIY point of view.... So much here is so high up... Gulp!

Sounds like a winning streak Dave - Good with the Hoover. Nothing worse than a gutless suck!
Sounds like you are getting loads done at the mo. I've had a few things on Gumtree but not a whistle, no movement there. I'll have another go when we get back.

We are expecting BIL this afternoon whose coming while we swann off for a bit. Amazing what I have to remember to do/tell him about - making lists which hopefully he will read - trying not to make it too long as that would defeat the purpose.

Dafty - I love a good burning, great if stuff dries our sufficiently to go. I have piles of branches to burn - amazing if taking even small trees out how much brash it creates that needs to dry & just be burnt. I do try & keep everything over a 2" width to burn in the stove.

Sorry to disappoint, but there hve been no nasty goings-on in any wood-shed.:(

The wiper blades turned-up with regular postie this morning, not the parcels guy. Checking the tracking, they'd been on a nice jaunt: first to Newton Abbot, and then over to Ottery St Mary, which is totally in the wrong direction.

It's probably a bit of job-creation by the local guys, who aren't too enamoured with their employers these days, with all the changed hours etc.

I mean, how the hell are they supposed to do their real jobs, like hedging and ditching, fencing, and servicing Agas? :rotfl:
