Nice evening but the midges were out in force, so I had to light the paraffin torch to frighten them off...
NB the pot with allium wasn't supposed to look so daft, the other bulbs failed so I just whacked in some bedding.
Pleased how the planting is now spilling over the coping on the dwarf wall, the effect I hoped to achieve.
New aquarium now assembled and filled, so will leave it for a few days to settle before adding fish at the weekend. I'll then be able to join in the conversations on animal husbandry :cool:0 -
Can't flipping sleep lol, never mind back up the ranch tomorrow night in the old caravan, def sleep like a log, as we got no internet up there you def unwind and switch off lol..Work to live= not live to work0

Sorry you can't sleep CTC. Neither can I so just got up as I am tossing & turning.
I just want the plumber to come as it is dragging out so long it's ridiculous. I'm getting so fed up with the situation.0 -
Choille...this last stage is hard, as you are relying on other people....that's the worst in any situation, when you rely on other people for certain things.
Just keep on saying to yourself... Its the last lap, have you got pictures of all the stages of the house build??? So you can look through and see how far you have come??? I find that helps when I feel low about things...

hi all...... IHS... it must be lovely looking out on that blue hue on a morning...:D
I used to love stepping out of front door of my last house to a bundle of colour every way I looked.. this house, its a big rear aspect but difficult [so far] to group and bulk plant for impact.. the view is the impact I suppose but im getting there.. I have to think long term maintenance and the beds here have already got away from me a bit...:o
I think I have to be ruthless and some big tall shrubs need to be reduced. it would bring the bottom half of the garden into the top more if that makes sense !:rotfl: there is a row/bed of dividing shrubs/plants with big steps down in the middle to a large lawn.
I will get a pic and see what anyone thinks...
right im off to work, its dry,its warm but who knows !!
gardeners are strimming the outside ditch banks and verges with me suggesting they check for frogs etc aS THEY GO0 -
hi all...
here are some pics from upstairs looking down
1. this is the area im working on. I want high impact beds [fairly windy there tho]
2. area that leads to 2nd lawn [field !!]
3. right side of top lawn , behind shrubs is top end of field...
4. the "field"
sorry to be soooooo boring but this is "the view0 -
what can I put on my good lawn to help green it up ??0

I'd keep the two areas very separate, not cut down shrubs, to make 'rooms'. That way you can have different feels and give the dogs and you different places to ho, but also concentrate on building impact in top area first.
You can cut little vista viewing windows through to bottom bit opposit windows from house so you can see through top garden , enticing views to beyond.....so that you want to wander through there....
Its a beautiful space, but seeing it all at once is too much IMO.0 -

I think I will get rid of fir trees as nothing is growing under them or its reaching for light. then shrubs will be more defined.... I think [this is right side no3] also I would like blue [my owl] to be able to see over.
"windows" are a good idea
this garden is sooooo different from my last one !0 -
The soil can be very acidic under Fir trees. You may need to even out the PH before planting owt there.
Good progress today: stair in - lovely wide stair with a gentle turn. Anyone know where I can get thick rope/cord for a stair rail?
The plasterer guy came & started on sorting stuff - some things won't be perfect, but already on a first fill it looks a whole load better - the guy really does know what is what - done it all his days. He came with his lovely collie cross so I had to go down the shore again to walk her - what a delightful, intelligent dog. Very midgied here, but kept moving or else got eaten alive.0
