Hospital visiting day for me, so dropped into Dobbies on the way back; from the "plant hospital" picked-up -
Madagascar Jasmine
Dendrobium orchid "Polar fire"
Hibuscus
Two large pots of Asiatic lilies
All 'over' of course, hence being sold off for a few quid.
Talk of dad getting home next week, mum's been out of hospital for a week or so. If it happens, first time they've been at home together since Easter.0 -
7 years  you can clearly play the long game!
I probably would have got used to your living circumstances and once that happens I've little incentive to do anything about any of it!
This is she with the new cooker in its box in the hall, the dish washer jammed in the downstairs loo, and one old kitchen cupboard in the living room with kettle and toaster balanced on top of the microwave, while washing dishes in the bath :rotfl: It's been like this for about 6 weeks, but it's working, sort of, so I'm not feeling pressured to hurry the new kitchen along
That said, I do have all the new units in situ, most with doors on, and one bit of worktop with working sink and hole for hob :T the carpenter fitting the kitchen knows a retired plumber who came out within a few days, job done....always easier when it's a mate of the main tradesman, the mate has more inclination to do a favour for him than for you!
The carpenter is not impressed with the newly plastered walls though - Must be going around choille - they're out of square in a lot of places, not by much to my eye but he's obviously got high standards. Perhaps I'll get him to recommend plasterers next time too!
Neighbour is getting worse, so I have been busy this week with solicitors and various government agencies including the coppers...just one example - he was pressure washing the road and pavement last weekend, the mud from his drive was all over the road with so many vehicles in and out, but it was right after his garden wall had been rendered and pebble dashed. He went right up to the front of my van which was parked on the street (legally) but a good way back from his new wall, so The front was filthy and when I cleaned it the paintwork is all chipped. ******
Copper was very nice (cute) and helpful but said I'd have a job proving there was intent to cause damage, hmmmmm what about asking me to move my car or just getting a broom...he had a word with neighbour and that's all I wanted, I need it all to be noted down now. I think I will still get a quote for repair to paintwork and forward it to the neigbour, intentional or not he did the damage, and it was totally avoidable. I'll see where that gets me!
And he's been letting a neighbour who is terracing their garden dump all the spoil in the same place as before, they had two dumpers on the go all day yesterday and a bit of today. Talk about taking the p1$$. So I've contacted the planners and natural resources Wales again, he doesn't have a licence to take waste and again no permission to import material. The more he does the worse it's going to be when he does have to rectify it, how stupid is this man?!
Sadly I know enforcing these things is not straight forward, so I'm not expecting justice, not quickly or easily at least.
Anyway, got the weekend all to myself :j no builders or anyone else due, although an hour from the electrician could be a bonus if it meant I could get my cooker wired in, or maybe I'll send for a takeawayI'm hoping to do nice crafty things all weekend as some of those lovely inspiring books and some supplies have arrived
And hopefully I've got enough animal food to last til Tuesday, or I'll have to go tomorrow - Monday's weather does indeed look vile  I'll hide indoors if it is and let the garden enjoy it  and the ducks 🐥0 -
IH - will be nice to have your parent together again, for them, for you. Hope it goes well.
FK - Goodness, if you do owt to a kitchen it throws everything out of kilter. Such a crucial space.
You did the right thing re the neighbour. It then lets that you aint gonna take it lying down. Neighbours, eh? They often are a strange, feral species that should be in a zoo - countryside is too good fer them. But that's me being all.......!!!!!y. I'm getting good at !!!!!ing.0 -
just picked sister and OH plus her 2 dogs up from Southampton ,[from IOW] dropped em off at my mums for weekend [here for dads day] we will all go sunday
the shutters !....... all boxes have measurements on em... that helps !
all the frames are there and I just have to match them
also apparently some stable door type set in there
not going to look till Monday tho... I paid what one small set sells for and im guessing 12/14 sets there ? and that's trade price :T
my sister was in fits of giggles calling me del boy and quoting "well, gotta make a few bob aint I rodders"....0 -
Alfie - I would be very interested if you have my sizes, but the sizes are pretty big & I have 7 windows in the kitchen, but one is so high up the gable I wouldn't need one there, but they are quite large. I'd pay - obviously if you had my sizes & number.
It's more like October outdoors than June. I can see clouds of midgies since the rain stopped.0 -
I will sort measurements and list them to you. the cms include the frame [apparently] so possible to add a thin frame before the frame if you get what I mean [if few mm out]0
-
Alfie - I would be grateful, but I would think that they won't be big enough for me & enough of the right size.
A grey day here with no breeze so midgied. Can see clouds of them hanging around. Such a frustrating year outdoors wise and it's very cool.
Hairy cat has left a dead bird & two piles of vomit left beside his bowl - pets who would have them - also a mouse is running amok in here.0 -
Morning everyone, drizzle and cloud here but not grey which is a bonus. But I doubt I'll get much done outside today. Sowed more lettuce and rocket seeds yesterday. I'm not doing great with salad leaves the last couple of years and I'm not sure why, not doing anything different.
I think I'm going to add a climber to the back if the house. There are 2 magnificent pyracanthas and a clematis ( no idea which one, late flowering big deep red/ purple flowers). But I can't stand the smell of the pyracantha. So wondering if there's something fragrant that would work. Any ideas? It could go in the ground although it's a very small border-maybe 6 inches wide only. The clematis us it it but presumably from when it was small. Or I can grow in a pot. North facing though which makes it harder. I would welcome any ideas??0 -
1st ever flower from one of my aloe aristata plants :jSo wondering if there's something fragrant that would work. Any ideas?
Lonicera periclymenum 'Graham Thomas'
Clematis 'Miss Christine'
No fragrance, but Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris will cope with a lot of shade0 -
IHS - before my aloe died mine also flowered, but it did it every year after I'd had it for ages. I think they need to be quite mature before they do.
Just been across in the veg garden - a complete weedy mess & eyesore. Nothing much happening veg wise either. Hairy cat had fun pouncing on frogs - which was alarming for us as well as the frogs.0
